All 4 are detailed in the above article, did not bet on their current teams, and placed low wagers. It should also be pointed out all lost badly. I think this will become just as big of a headache for MLB as PEDs were 20 years ago. Not many people are going to Blink an eye at the above 5 players, not many have heard of them. But the mud will hit the fan when the first star is caught. I'm sure many players are having cousin eddy place bets on their behalf, and that could be be a bigger mess. I've been wondering whether Baseball self-reported this particular incident by design because they want to characterize players betting on baseball as marginal nobodies who don't even know how to do it right, and who are not good players anyway, which certainly means they could never influence a game or a play in the service of a bet. That way, gambling seems less threatening to the integrity of the game, and Baseball gets to protect their uber-lucrative association with gambling interests. What we don't know, and could probably never know, is that they may also have discovered multiple All Stars with high merchandise sales attached to their names betting on games in which they have a duty to perform, and there is exactly zero chance of our ever hearing anything like that unless it's somehow leaked to the press. It was too pretty of a bow to put on day when the translater pleads guilty, Ohtoni is cleared and his case closed, AND 5 AAAA guys were caught betting on baseball. I think MLB is telling other more high profile guys "we know". I don't think the sports book notified MLB on of the kindness of their heart that these 5 guys were betting. I think it was probably a condition baseball put on ALL the sports books in order to climb in bed together. "We'll take your money and promote you, but you will let us know if any player places a bet". I'm sure there are a lot of cousin Eddie's and uncle Dueces out there placing bets for players as well. tiger2022 Posted June 10 Share Posted June 10 I think a lor of the players are drama queens when it comes to the "stories" about people threatening them. Not saying it hasn't happened but I am guessing they embellish it. Kind of like when LeBron James claimed someone just happened to get into his high security gated community with armed guards not allowing anyone in, and spray painting derogatory words on his home, you know the one that has cameras that cover every inch of his property even though those cameras somehow missed filming the culprit.
