Why move the team due to poor attendance and then put them in a stadium that can only hold about 10k more seats than their average attendance was in Oakland?  They’re at capacity and are bottom 5 in attendance, meanwhile another losing franchise—the Commanders—are bringing in 20k more tickets a game and are at 85% capacity.

I wonder if the relationship had become too negative and distracting with Oakland fans?  If they were only averaging 10-15K fans per game, they can accomplish close to that in Sacramento, which is more affluent and probably excited about having a MLB team for a few seasons.  

Ultimately, if they don’t end up in Vegas, this will drag out and become a bigger mess.

It’s weird.  Oakland fans definitely weren’t showing up when the team strategy was penny pinching and trading off anyone they had who was good, but that place seemed like an absolute zoo during the times where the team was consistently good in the post Hudson/Mulder/Zito/Haren era.

 

The fans there were thunderous when we played them in 06 and then in the Verlander domination era in the playoffs.  
 

Plus go back and look at stuff like the Balfour Rage where the stadium stands turned into a mosh pit whenever he came in to close games, and all the stuff like “I believe in Stephen Vogt!” Chant and “Nerd Power” for Eric Sogard.  
 

Maybe Oakland is just a very extreme fair-weather fan base where if the team is good they are going ape, but if the team isn’t good they basically disappear entirely.

I think they soured because the product wasn’t good and ownership was actively courting other cities.

Most mid to low markets are going to have that reaction though.  It’s one thing to be on a payroll budget, but another thing to not even try to field a competitive team on any level.

Twins and White Sox fans are furious with their ownerships right now.

Tickets were still very affordable in 2006.  Beers weren’t $16 a pop and a hat didn’t cost $45 at the team store.   Prices have skyrocketed for the average fan.  It’s harder to do more than just one game a season for many especially with families.

I think we all knew they would go back to largher letters next year, but going back to regular uniforms for the ASG is a nice surprise. Not that it will make the game actually meaningful, but it might make the game feel marginally more meaningful.

It still decides who has homefield advantage, seems pretty meaningful.

Game 1 of the Mets-Braves doubleheader has livened up. It was a 3-0 snoozer for the Braves heading to the 8th, but the Mets have strung together four straight hits to close to 3-2, with two on and 0 out. Joe Jimenez faced 3 batters without getting an out and has been replaced.

Same thing that happened in Detroit during the first 15 years or so of Mike Ilitch owning the team and the previous 10 years under Chris Ilitch.  

They weren't even trying or, hard to belief they were as pathetic as they were, had Randy Smith/Al Avila using their intelligence and skill to construct a team.

Yep, sucks for Arizona, but Arizona had 162 games to solidify one of three wildcard spots and didn't, so them's the breaks.

This DH is a disaster for MLB. The 2 teams fighting for the last WC spot, and seeding, get rained out and have to play a DH the day before the playoffs.  It's a serious disadvantage for their games tomorrow. Place. Your, Bets....lol
