Sports_Freak Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 Miami stinks. Just a horrible team. Quote

They went to numerous A’s games and loved that team. They moved back east in 2020 and still followed the A’s big time. Today was a very big deal for my son. His buddy from Alameda, who attended many games with my son there almost convinced him to fly out for today’s game but he just couldn’t make it work. I hate it for the fans there. I hate it for baseball, period. Why? It's a business first and foremost. The attendance was so low that it didn't make sense to stay there. The stadium was a train wreck. It's no different than a person switching companies for a much better personal situation. 1 Quote

When I was in Florida this summer we went to a place that had the Miami game on and there he was.... it was kind of refreshing to hear his voice again. Like seeing a former co worker outside the office. Different perspective. 1 Quote

I don’t know that Vegas is going to support the team either though. Especially if ownership isn’t going to try and field a competitive team. They got the Raiders a few years back and LV is consistently one of the worst teams in NFL attendance. It’s definitely a business, but you’ve gotta be willing to spend some money to make money. Reading the Twins messageboards the last couple weeks has been eye opening. Ive seen fans that are so fed up with the Twins standing pat at the deadline and not going after much in free agency that they said they’d be fine if the Pohlads moved the team out of Minneapolis because they don’t want to give another dime to them and maybe another franchise with better owners would eventually move into that market. Only 17,000 at the Twins game last night. Pretty bad for a team that had been in the playoff hunt all season. Quote

I have a suspicion that falls through and the Athletics end up in Nashville. I heard a theory this morning that if ownership changes hands and if there’s some turnover in Oakland politics, there’s now a situation to tear down the old dump and replace it on the spot. I’m not sure that’s likely at all, but who knows how this will all shake out. Quote
CMRivdogs Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 What happens to the AAA franchise that's already there? Do they get shipped to Sacramento or someplace or since they're the A's franchise do they catch an Uber to the new park? From what I heard from a couple of locals when we were there in April, they're not really thrilled with the location. Traffic is already bad enough, parking seems dicey at best. There is also enough other entertainment one would think an A's game would be way down the list. Quote

They don’t care about attendance. They care about windfall and revenue sharing. Quote

I’m hoping Fisher gets bored and sells the team. Putting this charade in Sacramento will highlight what a ridiculous joke this is to begin with. 1 Quote
holygoat Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 The Padres sat Luis Arraez yesterday. He leads Ohtani by about 4-points in the NL batting title race, and for Shohei, it's the Triple Crown on the line. It would be the punkest of punk-a** moves for him to sit for today's season finale. 1 Quote

I've wondered whether they will get an MLB-level stadium built in Sacramento, but although it's a #20 market, it's nothing but government and healthcare economy, which may not be enough to get the billions they need to build there. I'm starting to think they might figure out a way to get them to San Jose, which is far enough away from San Francisco that the Giants might be talked into allowing that to happen. 🤑 Quote
SoCalTiger Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 I don't understand why they couldn't at least stay in Oakland until the Vegas stadium is ready. MLB/Manfred could have assisted in that at the minimum. Quote

That's not really fair. The Raiders are sold out every game. They just have a small stadium. Quote

Could be the stadium was worth more to both parties as a sale than a playing venue. Quote
VegasTiger Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 I too have some doubts about the A's. Implosion of the hotel on the site is 10-9. As you can imagine, local TV covers it pretty well. I give it a 75/25 chance of happening. Quote

The Raiders should be sold out every game. There are only 8 or 9 regular season home games per season. Plus part of that season is a break for colder weather team fans. Plus there is the whole long weekend in Las Vegas thing that can be made around going to a Raider game for the opposing team’s fans. Quote

chasfh Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 I thought I saw where the Raiders stadium is 65,000 and they average something like 62,500. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted September 29, 2024 Author Posted September 29, 2024 So, Skubal gets the Triple Crown? Some still think he's second in Cy Young. Clase had a great season, but I don't think it should even be close. If the A's in Vegas doesn't work out...........Where then? Portland? Salt Lake City? San Jose? Riverside? Back to Oakland? Traveling Team? Quote

So if Oakland built a 12,000 seat stadium they could sell it out every day for the As. Doesn’t mean the attendance figure isn’t low relative to other teams…. Why move the team due to poor attendance and then put them in a stadium that can only hold about 10k more seats than their average attendance was in Oakland? They’re at capacity and are bottom 5 in attendance, meanwhile another losing franchise—the Commanders—are bringing in 20k more tickets a game and are at 85% capacity. Quote
Hongbit Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 In this day and age, I’m not sure if there are any markets outside New York and maybe LA that can properly support two teams anymore. It’s not hard to get eyeballs on TV screens in populated markets, but it’s hard to develop enough core fans that get in the car and show up regularly to spend their money at the ballpark. Baseball used to be a bargain but everything has gotten so wildly expensive. Quote
