This is pretty tense stuff, but even if the Dodgers screw the pooch in the ninth inning, they still have two more games in their back pocket. I’d just as soon see this season end here so we can move on with our own stuff. Deals awards. Etc.

Yeah, time to concentrate on winter sports. 2024 was a pretty exciting season.

You know, taking a side in this dispute is sort of like taking a side in a marital dispute and you don’t really know either of the two parties very well. At least it’s like that for me.

It is encouraging to see two other great teams do dumb stuff though. I don’t really follow other teams that much so this might allow me to be less discouraged by my own club when they do dumb stuff since it’s obvious that other clubs do the same thing.

It actually packed quite a few big moments into a 5-game series

It did. For the Dodgers to win in 5 games and Ohtani not even being a factor just shows how bad the Yankees played. No way they should have lost game 5. Giving the Dodgers 6 outs in the 5th inning was their undoing.

And there's already Dodger championship hats for sale...jeez

I'm sure pitchers have gone over a 3rd time before, but never in a game I was watching until tonight. Didn't affect the outcome in the end but still a 'want to crawl out my skin' moment for Weaver.

So did the Tigers issue nine walks in nine innings anytime this year?

If they did, I think I would’ve remembered it because I like to save my petty grievances in a little compartment in my dark heart and this is a petty grievance I would’ve treasured so I could feel like we were all getting a raw deal and deserved better.

I was gone for 10 minutes!  So 2 errors, really 3 errors, from what I gather? Slow grounder to 1st would have got the Yankees out of the inning at 5-0 but Cole didn’t cover the bag.

That ground out came on the 21st pitch of the inning, many of the later pitches being stressful.  Cole had to toss another 17 stressful pitches in order to get the 3rd out.

Right. But I don’t think it was physical fatigue that stopped him from running to the bag. I think he was so relieved by seeing the routine ground ball after the intensity of 21 pitches that he had a brain cramp forgetting he had just a bit more work to do.

Oh, I agree, I don't think it was fatigue that stopped him from covering 1st.  But that failure was compounded upon later on.
