Yeah, they're done in Tampa.    They're moving to Nashville.

And honestly, why should the taxpayers foot the bill.     I see how it works in some places with a deep passion for a team, or a historic team, where loads of businesses depend on that team.    Tampa has none of that.   Lukewarm fanbase that is just as likely to be rooting for the road team,  no real roots,  they jettison their anchor star players the second they deserve raises and there is no real financial district around that awful stadium.        Nashville would flip out over a Major League Team.   The rumored stadium site right next to the football stadium.  Lots of things just walking distance or a quick shuttle away.      The Rays are a bit of an afterthought in Tampa.

I agree with all your points. I honestly, as of right now, would put the Rays at a 50/50 chance of leaving Florida permanently before 2028. The November 21 vote will go a long way in revealing the local sentiment.

To me, this is the most interesting MLB story this offseason to this point.

The team is competitive year after year and they average 16K   And a lot of that attendance is there to see the Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Guardians and Orioles.     They just aren't all that into it.       Might help if the stadium wasn't a concrete bunker with no personality and hard to get to.    

And to think,  Tom Monaghan looked into moving the Tigers there.

yeah - this is the paradox. The league looks at the FLA market 'potential' and tells itself it can't miss out on Florida, but so far they haven't found that market to be as interested in them as they are in it. Tampa and Miami have consistently lagged the rest of the league in attendance and last season were 2nd and 3rd worst after only the Oakland team that has already told its fans to bag it.

It isn't quite that extreme, but they have a $25 mil deductible and max coverage of $50 mil now - they just lowered it in March to save a few hundred thousand per year.

They may not get the attendance, but they have some of the highest TV ratings IIRC.

That's fine, as not only would this or a new owner benefits with billions from the move, but it would re-open up the #11 market in the country as the prime foil in the Build-Me-A-New-Stadium-Or-I'm-Moving-The-Team gambit.

I only vaguely remember this, but had Monaghan successfully moved the team out of town, I'm not so sure Detroit would have gotten a replacement team anytime soon after, despite the market size. We might still be without a team today had that happened. After all, there's another top ten market, bigger than Detroit, that went without a team for over three decades.

As did whomever owned the White Sox pre Comiskey II. I'm assuming it was Reinsdorf.

Bill Veeck owned them before Reinsdorf. Veeck was owner 59-61 and 75-81. The Comisky's were pre-Veeck

I looked it up. 1983 Reinsdorf threatened to move the team to St Petersburg if he didn’t get a new stadium. The Illinois legislature caved at the last minute.

I'm curious whether the Yankees' single A team will share the stadium. Possible a morning schedule of home games when the schedule with the Rays collide.

Its the FSL.  Do they play the weeklong at one park schedule?  They could probably get by with moving to another nearby FSL park or split up the series between Tampa and the other team as needed.

UCF also has a field not too far away I'm sure they'd be glad to rent out.

Yes, I’m sure there are multiple avenues for the Tampa Tarpons to get their home games in.

The plan for the Tampa Tarpons has not been determine as yet regarding their game locations.

It's single a. Nobody cares. At most minor league teams pull in $10 million in revenue. That's like a bad ml reliever now. Mlb will just make the Rays pay for miss gate
