Could be an overreaction too... like someone suggested it, they discussed it as every suggestion, no matter how dumb, is discussed.... then it leaks.

Technically they discused it and it sounds bigger than it really is.

It’s a trial balloon.  Their social media managers are busy crawling the interweb to gauge what the sentiment is around this idea.

then we better make a LOT of NOISE about how BAD an idea the GOLDEN AB IS.

I don't remember the majority of fans liking the extra ining base runner.

The majority of players love it. Let’s them clock out earlier.

rgarding the ghost runner... I don't like it... but I don't hate it.

I've said it over and over I think it would be better in later innings.  GIve us a normal 10th and 11th....

They probably like it, but I don't think it makes a big difference.  They just avoid a small number of long games during the season.  Where it might make a big difference is pitcher management and maybe protecting arms.

Regardless, if fans were 90% against it, it wouldn't happen.  I don't think the majority of fans like it, but the ones who really hate it are probably the ones MLB is not worried about losing.

I think it's an abomination, but giving us a normal 10th and 11th would definitely make it better.  Not many games were going longer than that before the rule change anyway.

Almond Joy’s got deep dark chocolate, coconut and munchy nuts, too …

Damn you, man.

No, Mounds has the dark chocolate.  Almond Joy has milk chocolate (I had one yesterday).

Avoiding any super long games during the season is a big win for them. Who wants to stay at work a couple of hours longer when they can punch out in 20 minutes instead?

How can I not remember all the lyrics from a 40-year-old ad jingle? Shame on me! 😂

Then why do they complain about the pitch clock, something which makes games shorter every day?

Pitchers want to maximize time between pitches because it helps them. I don't think hitters complain so much about it.

They get done 20 minutes earlier though!

Maybe, maybe not, but pitchers also want to stay in rhythm. It was hitters that were responsible for slowing the game down and forcing the 'pitch clock' -- which is a misdirection name because it's been the requirement that hitters get in the box that has made the change. There were always a few pitchers that worked slow - Benoit for instance, but most ended up waiting for the batter most of the time.

Completely different 20 minutes argument.

I have heard both pitchers and batters complain about the clock.

As for going home early, I think they may like it, but I also think pro athletes are highly motivated and competitive and likely take the game home with them more than say a 9-5 office or factory worker.  Given all the travel and post-game BS they have to endure I think it probably takes a full day off for them to wind down which is why these are baked into the CBA.  They probably don't like the really long games more because it takes them out of their rhythm and tires them out fot the next game more than wanting to punch out early.

My original comment was about whether fans liked the extra inning runners.  I have seen a lot of fans say they hate it.  I have seen a lot of fans say it's tolerable and practical, more and more each year as would be expected.  I have't seen much enthusiasm for it, but the group of fans I followed is biased.
