CMRivdogs Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 From The Athletic on the A's new(?) home. It's gonna cost $250 million more than initial estimates. The A's say they're willing to foot the bill. Also the stadium won't be ready til '28, maybe https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5965207/2024/12/03/las-vegas-athletics-stadium-costs-rise/?source=athletic_thewindup_newsletter&campaign=11828613&userId=213687 Quote
Hongbit Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Right when I thought it wasn’t possible for East Bay fans to hate John Fisher even more. Quote
papalawrence Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Astros broke the ice with Bregman with an opening offer of 6/156. I have a hunch that's about what Harris would offer, if the Tigers planned to try to land him. I think he'll get 6 or 7 @ 180-200 Quote
IdahoBert Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Congratulations to the 2025 World Series champion Sacramento Athletics. Quote
IdahoBert Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 It’s kind of interesting that two major league teams will be playing in minor league stadiums in 2025. Quote

The ballpark fits him and he seems comfortable being an Astro and they are a winning organization. Plus no State taxes. Quote
IdahoBert Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 I suppose there are statistics out there justifiably contending Comerica Park isn’t that bad of a hitter‘s ballpark, but I don’t know if hitters themselves feel that way and are tripping over themselves to come here. Nick certainly blossomed when he left here. of course that’s a small sample size. I’m not going all Lynn Henning in on this, but I think this place might be a tough sell for a hitter, even with changes made to the park. You’d really have to be all in on “the idea of the Tigers“ and the future and while that might work for us, I don’t know how that plays to hitters themselves. I could easily be wrong about this because I am clearly a moran. 1 Quote

You look at ballpark factors for RHH over at Savant and even though it’s 98 overall, which reads as average, we still rank 22nd among all ballparks. And our RHH home run factor, which is what I assume income- and legacy-seeking sluggers care most about, is 88 which ranks 23rd. So, I agree, tough sell. I’ve been noodling the idea of moving the LF fences in five or ten feet. Left-handed pitchers we desperately want to extend wouldn’t love that, but how would that play to right-handed sluggers? 1 Quote

monkeytargets39 Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Soto to the Mets. 15 years 765 million. Quote
Shinzaki Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Yanks to target Santander as a replacement? Quote

papalawrence Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Being that Boras also represents Skubal, I don't see him staying in Detroit. He is likely to get historic offers from one of the monster teams. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Have to hope for the Soto thing to flop hard because if this is the cost of top ballplayers, then what, 26 or 27 out of 30 teams will never ever have a chance to land these type of guys. Quote
ben9753 Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Remember the good old days when you could lock up a top player for a cool 100 mill? Inflation sucks. Thanks Biden 1 Quote

Good point and I think he has strong numbers in Citi field as well. Or maybe he prefers the National League or Cohen will keep adding players. Quote
