I agree. Schilling should be in. But he is outspoken and strongly opinionated, usually against mainstream. Imho he was more of an ace than Jack Morris

He didn’t cheat or hurt anyone.  He’s only guilty of having political views that are contrary to the baseball writers, which is egregious in evaluating his HOF credentials. I don’t personally like the guy, but that should have zero bearing.

Agreed.

Although I understand why some voters would be hesitant to put known Steroid/PHD users on their ballots, I can’t support the idea of someone being left out just because they’re a jerk.  Schilling was a legit ace and one of the top pitchers in the NL for a long stretch of time.  He deserves to be in.

I agree.  His video game business was viewed as shady too, but nothing was every proven and nobody has ever been left out due to white collar stuff anyway.

He was way better than Morris.

yes, he was and sabathia was better than Morris too.  I see Schiling as a slam dunk, Sabathia as just barely in and Morris as lucky to be in.

The one voter who didn’t vote for Ichiro needs his credentials revoked

Do you feel the same about the one guy who didn't vote for Jeter?

2026 veterans ballot for hof. Lou is up, and he is up against several other players on the bubble. I fear Lou will get passed up again. One of these guys make sense - that Rolen and Helton don't stand out against this list and they are already in

Assuming the PED suspects are once again all snubbed….

I think Schilling, Kent and Whitaker should get the most consideration off that list.

No.

I ask because Jeter had a much better career in the majors, and was also broadly more popular than Ichiro. Fans practically wanted to hunt down the lone voter and destroy his life over it.

The way I see it, Ichiro got one of the greatest vote totals in history and that should be celebrated.

I feel as though Lou might get overlooked because the entire discussion will be about Bonds and Schilling.

All three should be named to the Hall. Instead, I’m gonna predict it will be Mattingly and that’s it, I’m guessing because the committee will want to make a moralistic statement about it.

I think similar, but the player will be Dwight Evans. Higher ops and ops+ than Baines, similar longevity stats, and 8 gold gloves.

Correct, but as you know, Baines is a lot worse than Jack Morris.  He was a solid player with longevity, but he has no Hall of Fame credentials at all. That one was a real head scratcher.  Morris, at least, was a top 10 pitcher in WAR 5 times, Cy Young votes 7 times and complete games 10 times.  He was also the best pitcher on some championship teams.  He just wasn't elite.  Baines was never close to being in the top ten players.  Probably not even the top 20.

I think Evans is comparable to Whitaker.  They both belong.

Whitaker will have some stiff competition just making the final 8.  Whitaker, to me, is clearly a Hall of Famer but he is going to need someone to push him through and I don't know if that's ever going to happen.  Maybe Trammell will have some influence some day, but he doesn't sem like a pushy guy himself.

Let's not just paint it as political differences. Schilling has made comments that are flat out racist, wrong, lies and the whole Wakefield thing.

Way more than him liking bob dole over clinton

Lou didn't even make the ballot the last time.

If he doesn't make it this year I doubt he ever will. He gets a lot of love but will it be enough?

He gets love from the saber community and the modern baseball writers.  They almost universally think he belongs.  I don't know how many of those types will have influence.

Ok—replace political with controversial.  Still zero reason to keep the player out.

I would have thought being a smaller voting community to pick these ballots and then vote on them would help.

The last ballot from his era had the likes of Albert Belle, Schilling, Bonds, Mattingly.  It was the year they put in McGriff.  I dont know if they will put those guys back on or try for others to get a chance.  It's the "contemporary" era ballot. Do they figure "Ok, you had your chance.  Time for someone else to be considered".

I think Whitaker/Evans etc would’ve been in already if there wasn’t division on PED users being allowed in.  How many worthy players aren’t in because guys like Bonds/A-Rod/Clemens are on the ballot for the full length of time instead of being first ballot?
