2024 DETROIT TIGERS REGULAR SEASON THREAD

Recommended Posts

If there’s one thing we learned this year (and thank God we finally did), it’s that bringing in cheaper “veteran leaders” is generally an outdated waste of time and money.  It’s not a coincidence that we start winning and playing with more energy and enthusiasm once we jettisoned Canha and Urshela, benched Maeda, and started cutting way back on Baez’s playing time.   Rarely is the trade value of those players even worth it.  Our team may not have had the experience on the grind of a season and playoff race, but that’s what they have coaches for- to keep them focused and motivated.

We have a team now- a group of guys with not much ego who will go out there and do whatever it takes to help the team win and will gladly cheer each other on when it’s not their turn as opposed to just guys who have been inserted into the roster because we were the team that would pay them the most.

Even if we go out in the first round of the playoffs this year, I’ll be going to more games next year, buying more Tigers merchandise and trying to hype up friends, family and coworkers for next year.

Btw, Canha, Chafin and Kelly are having a watch party on Tuesday afternoon if any one wants to join them.

Tigers new hitting coach?

I used to go to 1 or 2 games a year and remember Mike Napoli just crushing Tigers pitching a few times. One year he was on the Angels and the next year I went to a game and he was on Texas.

They would have to make it worth his while though.  He's not coming to Detroit just for a hitting coach title and salary.

Deuce asked for his "release ". He was in Chicago long enough to set things up the way he wanted, and things are running smoothly.  He already has Detroit under his thumb, so no need to come back.

His eye is on a bigger prize, most likely  New York. After that, Las Vegas. Yes, the A's (or someone else) will get there. In NY, Deuce will have Manford under his watch full time, and Jim will make sure Vegas happens.

Now hearing that Eduardo Rodríguez will be bringing his 5.04 ERA and famous 7-layer dip.

I like Canha, Chafin, and Kelly just fine. They came here to do a job, to serve a purpose for us, they did, and now best of everything to them. We might get a major leaguer or two out of the returns.

Guys like that are like minor league filler.  You need people on the ML roster and I like they are trying to give fans as presentable of a product as they can while figuring out if the kids can perform, rather than just let a bunch of kids go out there and flail about.  And like you say, maybe you can get a player back out of it to help you later on.  Having a "lean" 70 win season is ok every once in a while while you retool the roster but this org at this time and place can't do that.

Wow, that happened a lot faster than I thought!

Add Vest, Vierling, Torkelson and Sweeney who got cut off in the cut and paste....

so 12 arms makes room for both Mize and Madden.

Technically, it's not a cut and paste, it's a zoom. If you click the roster part of the tweet it will reveal the entire roster.

Liam Hicks was part of the return from the Rangers for Carson Kelly.
