2024 DETROIT TIGERS REGULAR SEASON THREAD

Recommended Posts

I'll wait til the end of the season, but I think I've got the Tigers' luxury tax salary calculated pretty close.

End of the season is because bonuses still get added, as do some of the promotions/demotions for split contracts. Also, the bonuses for Chafin, Kelly, and Flaherty are split depending on how many of the stats in questions are racked up with the other team.

Pittsburgh isn't going anywhere anyway. Joey might be a good National League pitcher, ya never know.

I am not sure that is a thing anymore.  With universal DH and all teams playing each other now, there isn't much difference between leagues.

They answered a lot of questions this year.

They did?  Not to be negative or cynical, but I think there are way more questions than answers.  Greene, Carpenter and Keith have earned their spots in the lineup, but I don’t think we have enough sample with anyone else, except Tork, who remains a big question mark. Meadows has been encouraging, and probably can be counted on, but not a sure thing.

For the staff, I’d go with Skubal, Olson (if healthy), Holton and Foley.  Again, some encouraging things with Hurter and Madden, but again, such a small sample.

I think next year will be more telling.

Vierling, Rogers, Ibanez, Mize, Vest and Brieske. That's more than half the roster with the guys you mentioned. Of course some of the answers weren't good. Wentz gone. Miller and Maeda can't be counted on.

The rookies have a lot to prove but have played well. There's depth available in the minors still.

Maybe the biggest question of all, Chris Fetter is the real deal. He's capable of getting the best performance out of the pitching staff and that's a big advantage going forward.

Questions with:

  • Good answers: Greene, Keith, Meadows, Vierling, Olson, Holton, Skubal, Foley (maybe not your closer but solid), Vest, Carpenter (that's 40% of a 26 man roster solidly in place)
  • Answer is meh but will be on next yrs 26: Rogers (calls great game, still can't hit), McKinstry (actually turning out pretty good for utility, but still utility). Gets you to 46% of a roster
  • Answer is meh but may or may not make next yrs 26:  Brieske, Faedo, W. Perez (5th OF on a 4 OF team)
  • Answer probably no: Malloy, Baez (should just be no but there is a slim chance he'll be better if he recovers well)
  • Answer is no: Miller, Wentz (already gone), Kriedler, Baddoo, Manning, Lange
  • Still can't answer: Mize, Montero, Tork (but not trending well), Dingler, SGL,
  • Possible yesses but SSS is too small: Sammons, Yung, Hanifee,Madden, Hurter, Sweeney.
  • odds and ends: Maeda will play out his deal as a swing guy
