Wings were the better team for first 36 minutes. But a minute of pressure by the Caps and …a brain cramp in final seconds and …
 

2-0 after 2. Practically the season on the line the next 20 minutes.

Caps dominating all the sudden and it’s 2-0. Not good.

seider mishandles a bullet pass from perron across the middle of the ice, falls down, and then ovechkin waltzes in and scores.

if perron just dumps the puck in it doesnt happen.  if seider actually holds the damn puck it doesnt happen.

two mistakes led to two caps goals.

Flyers appear to have given up. Losing 6-0 to Montreal. Torts must be exploding

A must have game and this offense is outscoring them 27-16 and we're still scoreless and down 2-0.

If the Wings lose in regulation and NYI hangs on to their 3-2 lead over Rangers, the Wings are pretty much done. Would need to outpoint NYI and Wash by 3 pts each over the final 4 games.

I don't know why the Wings have switched away from their normal offensive style to start taking long shots. They look good in the SOG totals but that's not the Wings game, which all season has been to pass up on low percentage shots to keep moving the puck and get higher value chances.

so how did that debrincat trade work out?

was he the 40 goal scorer he was when he was paired with patrick kane in his prime?  or is he just a small, fast forward who is a little above average as a scorer but nothing else?

The most disappointing Wing of the season, IMO.  8 goals in the first 6 games. 16 goals in the next 72 games.

and he's a player who isnt giving you anything if he's not giving you offense.

Islanders win. I think that's all she wrote. Even IF the Wings beat Pittsburgh on Thursday, they'd still be out of playoff position with 3 games to go, with one of those being on the road to Toronto.

Edit: Just realized this win actually puts the Caps 1 pt up on the Wings, not 2. Although effectively 2 points since Caps own the tiebreaker. But still dire straits.

The 1st Caps goal was such a cluster. Passing had gotten sloppy, Petry was gassed, couldn't get off because the Wings failed multiple times to clear - that goal was like a slow motion train wreck, you could see it and feel it coming. Then 99 yr old Ovechkin left Chariot with his hockey pants around his ankles to seal it.

also 13 goals in 24 game before Kane joined the team, 11 in the 52 games since. Maybe the coach should figure out that just because two guys played well together 5 yrs ago on a different team doesn't mean they are still the best pairing years later. Maybe in general not spending enough time with mixed and matched lines is part of why the loss of one guy and the line shifts it necessitated caused such a total breakdown?
