kdog Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Cardinals won a Tigers style game earlier...Tigers returned the favor and won with Cardinals sloppy softball. 1 Quote
IdahoBert Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 After the first game this win is sort of the way Keith Richards must feel when he has to settle for a trip to the methadone clinic but to me this is a good rush. Quote
UCFKNIGHT Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 The Tigers should make Matt Manning their closer. His pitches are good enough to get just about any MLB lineup out the first time through the batting order. From the fourth inning on, Manning fails miserably. 1 Quote

Sports_Freak Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Maybe we won't see Riley leading off any more? He's more valuable with runners on base. And with our weak 6, 7, 8 and 9 hitters, the bases are usually empty when he's up. Move Tork down to 7, if he has to play. Better yet, use Canha at 1st base and sit Tork. It would be a case of addition by subtraction. Quote
IdahoBert Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Tork acts like he grew up one side or the other of the equator. When it’s 90° and 80% humidity, he’ll really be hitting. Quote

If everyone was hitting, we could carry him. But with so many struggling, can we carry his weak offense? Scott Sizemore 2.0. Quote
holygoat Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Meadows, Keith and Tork all need to be sent down. Not sure who replaces them, but this team can't continue to basically gift opponents 9+ outs every game. Quote

Gipson-Long could be put on the 60 day IL so someone else could be added to the roster. Malloy and Hiura are hitting well. Quote

His value depends too much on his walk rate and MLB pitchers just are not going to walk him at those rates, regardless of how good his eye is. If he develops the power to get some of those walks back because pitchers are afraid of him, that can work. Quote

I agree, he might have a better future as a RP. However, the Tigers do need reserves in the minors at SP to be called up as the 6th, 7th, 8th SP. So with the option available, he's been able to serve as the 6th SP. That was going to be one of Manning, Mize, and Olson, and Manning drew the short straw. At some point, one of the 1-5 SPs will succumb to injury. Manning will be the fill in this season. Perhaps he establishes himself as a SP going forward. Maybe they convert him to RP after this season. He could also be traded if the Tigers build up enough depth in the minors and/or make some offseason moves. But it seems doubtful that he'll be in the bullpen this season. Quote
