You listen to him talk baseball and he lights up talking about pitching and pitchers, both his own and the other guy - but it's like hitting is terra incognita to him. Retired catchers have made some good pitching coaches over the years.

Baddoo would make sense as a lefty pinch hitter/runner off the bench. Edited May 7 by Tigermojo

casimir
Vilade plays all over the field as well. So that's kind of dandy. Edit: Does this put McKinstry on notice? Edited May 7 by casimir

Additionally, they could always move Gipson-Long from the 15 day IL to the 60 day IL. I surprised they didn't call Baddoo back up. Already on the 40. Offensive line isn't as good as Vilade, but definitely isn't packing the BABIP filler punch either. This might be moot once Urshela is back anyway. With the old regime, a guy who was ~26 might get the 'last chance' call because it was time to put up or move on. Vilade is still maybe year short of being there but in any case I don't have much sense yet on Harris' thinking about cutting bait on older AAA players. Baddoo's line seems worthy enough of a call up in this instance, he's already on the 40, and I believe this is his last option year. We've seen him play, we know the general strengths and weaknesses. I guess what I don't understand is, if he isn't worthy of this call up in this situation, why has he remained in the organization? Maybe its more about the defensive versatility (ie, the infield if Vierling is needed in CF) than I think it should be, I don't know. Seems like a "look how smart I am" move by Harris I don't think this is a "I'm so smart" move at all. It has nothing to do with that. And everything to do with this (plus he has a "hot bat" as well, BABIP-be-damned...): 1 hour ago, casimir said: Vilade plays all over the field as well... ... McKinstry on notice? I don't think this is a McKinstry issue either. IMO, it's simply a matter of wanting to play a guy ANY where that they think they "need a guy". If Tork continues his struggles, he'll get some time at 1B. If they wanna give Keith a few days, he'll get some 2B time. If Canha should be DH, he'll be in the OF... I think it is purely an issue of "hot bat" + "flexibility". And with so many guys struggling... IMO, we should be on board with that flexibility... Just sayin'. kdog
The bar is very low here...but we've seen with guys like Tyler Nevin that sometimes the 4A types can't even hit a .600 OPS.

In the PCL so while those sound like good numbers it's only a 135wRC+. JHM has a WRC+ of 138 in the IL with a worse statline.
LongLiveMaroth
One thing I feel like has been lost in this rather sad thread is the reclamation of Joey Wentz. Here is his savant page. Obvious SSS but I would not be surprised to see him get some more leverage innings.
gehringer_2
Wentz tends to be as good as his FB, which has ticked up more than 2 mph across the last two seasons.
