What if SMU blows out Penn State? Is he going full James Franklin today? He has a $56M buyout. The only way he’s gone is if Terry Pegula wants to pay for it. And yes, there’s a real shot at the full James Franklin coming out today. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 If Tennessee beats Ohio State - that might mean Ryan Day gets fired. I don't want Ryan Day to get fired So I should be cheering for Ohio State today But I can't. I just cant. GO VOLS ! Quote

Delusional Bucknuts think the next Tressel or Meyer is just out there for the picking, because that’s what they’re used to. Career .900 coaches aren’t growing on trees. Truth is, there are a lot more Rich Rods and Brady Hokes out there than Ryan Days. Edited December 21, 2024 by MichiganCardinal Quote
buddha Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 smu and indiana both got crushed the minute they played top level competition (and penn state). nice stories, but it shows the major flaws in this system. more than ever, teams have no incentive to play anyone non-conference. Quote
lordstanley Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Get ready for calls for an 8-team playoff: top 5 SEC teams + top 3 Big 10 teams. Quote

buddha Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 i like the idea of a 12 team playoff, i just think more emphasis should have been put on strength of schedule, and giving boise and arizona state byes is ridiculous. the acc and big 12 should get 1 team in and the champ should definitely NOT be given a bye. that's dumb. indiana was a cute story but they played one good team all year and got stomped. 12 seed at best. clemson in as an 11 seed. smu should have been out. look, in the bball tourney you see 19-11 acc teams make it over 23-7 mac teams all the time. same should be true in college football. we'll see what the tv ratings end up being. if penn st-smu and penn st boise end up with low ratings enough years, they'll tweak it. and if the big ten and sec dont get the majority of teams moving forward, in the next iteration the tv networks will let them both know they need to start their own tourney to justify those billion dollar contracts. RandyMarsh Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I wonder if all the SECSPN guys are gonna complain about Tennessee getting in after getting trucked like they did Indiana when Indiana was getting blown out yesterday? Quote
lordstanley Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Tennessee are total frauds. Beat 3-loss Alabama by 7, their only win of significance. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Funny that assuming OSU holds on it will be them and Oregon in the Rose Bowl next week, just your average old school Rose Bowl matchup. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I hate OSU but damn is Jeremiah Smith good, it's criminal how OSU seems to churn out these stud WRs every year and Michigan throws out a bunch of chumps. Quote

As for the TV ratings, I don’t know how much of a factor, if at all, that today’s FCS games were on ABC whereas the FBS playoff games in the same window were on TBS or TNT. I suppose the FCS games were already contractual before the FBS playoffs were born, so, OK, I understand that part. I guess TNT/TBS is probably basic on all services, but maybe not. Quote
buddha Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 because ohio state should have been seeded, not arizona state or boise state. this game should be asu at tennessee. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Well, this probably means Ryan Day stays, which is good. Hey, all those years the Big Ten had to go down to SEC/Pac 12 Country for Bowl Games where they were the "road" team. Those southern schools sure don't like coming up north in the cold much. 1 Quote

So teams win their conference championship and then they DON'T get an extra home game. It's a very strange setup. But I think the champions of the SEC, Big 12, Big 10 and ACC should get the automatic bye. They are leaning everything towards the power conferences anyway and I do believe that there will end up being 4 Auto-Bids for the SEC and Big Ten eventually. I just have a feeling college football will look a lot different just 5 years from now. I also think watching games for free will be going away. Quote
