On the subject of Ohio State - How much is Jeremiah Smith’s Sophomore season worth and will it be the Bucks that pay it?

Fans aren’t quite used to this new reality that he’s a free agent right now.  Ohio may have a leg up at the moment but he will spend up until the spring window to figure it out.   He’s written in their lineup for next year in pencil and very lightly.

I realize I am biased, since I am an Ohio State fan, but I can't see where he would be better off anywhere else, in either the short term or the long term. He's with a program that features him, has ample NIL, and churns out NFL WR talent like no one else. Any NIL offer from another program would have to be 3x what OSU can provide to even consider it. I don't even think the change at QB really factors in. If there are any concerns at all with Sayin (and I don't think there really are), they would just go get another Howard.

it doesnt matter what program he plays at, he's still going to be a top pick in the nfl draft.

the young man should make as much money as he can now.  if that's a raise from ohio state or a raise from usc or a raise from alabama, he should take it.

I agree, which is why OSU didn't screw around with it and just paid him what he needed. They want him to be drafted with a block O next to his name and are going to pay whatever it takes. Next year as well.

With that said, I was surprised they paid Carnell Tate as well, when the rumors broke they were both being tampered with during the leadup to the natty, I figured they would have to use the Tate money to keep Smith. I think OSU wants to keep the WR factory chugging and are just going to pay WRs whatever it takes to keep them. This also helps recruiting because the elite WRs know that if they are good at OSU they are going to get paid while in college and will likely get drafted in the first round.

It’s not tampering for an NIL agent with ties to a school to approach another players NIL agent or family about a potential offer.  This is exactly why people have agents in the first place. I also imagine there are agents trying to pick up clients by saying they have a relationship with a school they don’t have knowing if that player signs with them it will open doors for the agent.

It would be tampering if a coaches or GM’s were approaching players with offers but that’s not happening.

The word has been thrown around by butthurt coaches but what’s happening behind the scenes isn’t tampering.  It’s the new way of doing business.

This has all happened so fast and without any guardrails.  Many coaches and fans are not understanding that this is now a year to year commitment and not a 2 or 4 years as it was in the past.   Money is the most important factor followed closely by playing time since that allows them to make more money.  Coaching, development, academics, and whatever else are far down the list for the top players.

It it totally tampering, but I didn't complain about it or say it was illegal.

Really - what's a bit of pond scum when the whole system is one big swamp!

Exactly, college football is gross right now (always has been), I am not sitting here saying every team isn't tampering, but I am not going to pretend it isn't happening lol
