The Tigers had 12 consecutive years of losing records from 1994-2005.  They have not quite reached that yet.

Baby Doc has a few more seasons to catch up with Papa Doc.

What a Skubal trade package would look like according to Woodbery and looks like he used the trade simulator as a check as well.

From the article:
“If Holliday made an All-Star team for the Tigers in 2027, would it assuage the regret of watching Skubal win a World Series and Cy Young for someone else in 2024? That’s a difficult question to answer, which is why this is a difficult trade to make.”

My guess is that trading Skubal near term would alienate a lot of fans… a LOT of fans, many permanently. Eight year rebuilds don’t create much goodwill capital to draw from.

No one knows who Skubal is.  Probably the most unheralded, low key superstar in Detroit sports.  If the franchise could withstand trading Verlander, who everyone knew and loved, they’ll get over trading Skubal.  Might take 48 hours, but it will happen.

I'll offer a crazy trade:

To the Orioles:

Skubal, ...

To the Tigers:

...

Orioles: Skubal, maybe another spare part if they want one, reliever or OF'er...?

Tigers: Coby Mayo, Sam Basallo and 3 pitchers: 23 yo Cam Weston (in AA), 22 yo Nestor German (in low-A), 19 yo Jesus Palacios (in FCL):

Who says no?

I imagine they lost some fans when they traded Verlander. If nobody knows Skubal, it is because nobody is going to games since they are are a losing organization.

If we trade Skubal to the Orioles it has to start with Holiday. We are desperate for shortstop. The risk with Mayo and Bassallo is there are some doubts they can stay at third and catcher and we already have to many misfit toys.

all would greatly prefer Holliday, but there are other people who can play SS besides him.

of course, Harris could not find any of those other people last winter to guard against Javy's continued collapse, which is why they have AAAA McKinstry and FFFF Kreidler.

Not me, I like this trade.

I would put Flaherty on IL. It might suppress his trade value, but the way things are going I want to head off any injury that stops him from being traded altogether. Worse case scenario he gets injured, hurts his back really bad, no QO made, and Scott is left holding an empty bag for the second year in a row.

Agree and it shouldn't require trading Skubal. The same goes for 3rd base. Harris can not leave that open for a third year in the row and stop gaps, rookies who can not play the position  and outfielders playing third do not count. Get a legit third sacker for 2025

Agreed. IMHO, IF Flaherty is healthy and pitching decent, a contending team or two will try to make a deal for him (BTW, I am for bringing him back in the off season if he does not land a huge contract elsewhere).

* So, if a team or two or more are interested, here is where this FO can show it's chops. Package a prospect or two with Flaherty (or CKelly, etc. again NOT Top 5) and get a guy (or two) that you really like. Someone who can be part of a 'core' that SHarris always refers to.

However, IMHO, that idea of 'a core', does not hold as much salt as before (there is some sense there but not to bank on). The game has changed. The league finds things out way more than before about players. Too many injuries, players have bad years or regress, etc. Just look at the Tigers from last year to this year. Will we win 78 games this year? Will we go 40-37 the rest of the way? (I do hope so, but...)

They need to acquire more talented players and quit going/claiming after muddling INFs who seem to work the count or RPs that are often let go by other teams multiple times.

The second paragraph is key to this trade deadline *.

Jace Jung is ready for 3B in 2025.
