He said the lower back injury requires 3½-4 weeks of rest without any baseball activities, followed by a 1½ weeks of baseball activities before getting cleared to play games. Based on that timeline, Carpenter seems on track to begin a rehab assignment in the first week of July, but it's too soon to know exactly when he will return to the Tigers. "Let the bone heal," Carpenter said, "and then ramp back up after that. I've never dealt with this kind of thing before, so it was quicker than I thought. I was happy about that."
