Oregon, Ohio is pronounced differently than the Oregon the state.  Oregon here has the syllables drawn out a bit longer and the “gon” sounds like a lot like the word “gone”.

That’s so Ohio to pronounce Oregon wrong on purpose.

Hurts my ears just thinking about it. Haha

Well, I was right about the pronunciation, but the road I took to get there was a big lie.  I feel shame.

Oh, yes, you’re right, I’m wrong.  I didn’t realize he went to Genoa, I always thought he went to Clay.  Genoa is a smaller system than Clay, and Clay Twp is certainly smaller than Oregon.  Thanks for correcting me.

No problem, Went to Clay myself and was coaching there when Chris was at Genoa.

There’s also a Nevada (Street) that is pronounced differently than the state.

I get the feeling that yesteryears’ out of shape and drunk half the time players who didn’t make it much past the age of 32 because they didn’t take good care of them at least weren’t injured all the time. I have no data to back this, but it’s just my off the cuff hunch.

Counterpoint: they didn’t pitch nearly as hard yesteryear as they do today.

At the refinery we use to say Ordegon. The Ex-Sun Refinery is apparently why Oregon exists.

Never heard of Ordegon.  Ever drive on nuh-VAY-duh Street?

I think it was a swipe at the locals by the carpetbagger engineers from the place up north. Oddly enough, I always thought the union staff at that facility was a lot smarter than the management - but TBF, that problem had it's roots in Philly.
