Gambling is an addiction and like all addictions has little to do with logic.

Lottery, casinos, and now sports betting? What is the government going to legalize next? Prostitution? It's all about bringing in tax dollars from people who can't afford to lose/spend it. Talk to any mental health professional and they can give you case after case of the destruction of families over gambling. Even the socially accepted lottery.

Sounds simplistic but we won't have a deal until we have a deal.  I expect movement once there's real risk on the season being affected.  We had 2 consecutive seasons with either a low number of games or capacity restrictions.  They'll want things to be normal and will work it out.  There's no just need to move now.

That’s been my thought process and reasoning as well. However, no further meetings are currently planned and the owners didn’t move on any of the players key demands. I’d be very surprised to see any real movement anytime soon.

Sound reasoning . I hope your right. It's so frustrating in the same. So much money to share how hard can it be ?

I disagree with that.   I don't think either side cares about normal.

But the good thing is that the school systems that benefit from these revenues are swimming in plenty of funds.

That sucks but not surprising. So when are they going to retire the NL and AL identifiers?

That's the kind of thing Manfred would do and not undrerstand the significance of it.

I don't like the DH rule, but having a universal DH makes sense with so much interleague play.  There are legitimate advantages to having the DH rule.

I never liked it either,  I think it's stupid, but using the same rules makes sense.

Regarding the DH, I wonder what split is between (1j for DH, (2) against DH, or (3) just pick one and make it consistent across both AL & NL. I suspect (3) is the leader.

Fans of American League teams think pitchers batting is stupid.  Fans of National League teams think the DH is stupid.

I would think the players have the advantage at holding out longer. The players just have themselves to worry about, owners have huge orginizations to fund. I assume they don't get their TV money and what not until the season starts?

The owners all have other sources of revenue (and overall baseball is not very profitable).

Players have no other sort of revenue.

Right, but more home runs over more runs.  The 1930s era was the one that consistently produced the most runs, but I doubt they'd want to go back to that style of play.

I just kind of thought of this, and I don't know if I'll be able to express it properly or not.  But, you think about today and how baseball is widely available on TV and radio (although radio availability has traditionally been more widespread).  So, in the past, a baseball game was more of a treat to go to or to watch than these days.  In the past, someone might be more willing to devote a 3 hour chunk of time to watch a game than today because baseball games weren't as available.  This is probably something that has been mentioned here before, but I don't recall it.

Anyway, the scarcity of football games (weekly vs daily) can kind of have this variable attached to it as well.  Following a favorite team means 12 -14 games in college or 17-20 games in the NFL.  Meanwhile, if you want to follow an MLB team, there are 162 games a year.  If I watch a game and its moving at a snail's pace, and I need to do something else (say mow the lawn), I might decide bail on that game and tune in the next day.

Now, I think we can all understand that there's a lot of dead time in a football game.  What have studies said, the ball is only in play for like 12 minutes of a 60 minute game clock?  But I'm going to stay with the football game because there are limited opportunities during the season.  Plus, I've got halftime to move away from the TV for a break, whereas baseball doesn't have that.

I don't know if I've typed that out well enough or not.  And its not the reason for baseball having an unfavorable reputation vs football despite having a similarity between the two, but I think its part of the equation.

I'm glad you don't make the rules. Baseball can be very boring at times, watching a pitcher try to hit is the best time to use the bathroom. 😆
