STOP, no fans, no retirement 2021: Limited fan attendance, we'll do it next year 2022: Well, we were going to do it again, but once the lockout went into June, we backed off, maybe next year. I was thinking the same thing when I saw the story. Well you know what they say about great minds thinking alike; it’s similar to the saying about big hands and big feet inferring big shoes. Quote
Tiger337 Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 (edited) Manfred will give us some BS about about how they are working hard and made a fair offer and he wants to start the season on time, but the players are not negotiating in good faith. Edited February 9, 2022 by Tiger337 Quote
1776 Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 I’d guess there is a realistic chance he officially announces a delayed start in one fashion or another. Spring training won’t start on time as it is. It’s hard to believe that after all the chaos and confusion experienced around the 2020 season that the owners and players haven’t made any more effort before now than they have to prevent an interruption to this season. I would bet it’s to announce a delay to the start of spring training and then an attempt to push the blame onto the players. 1 Quote

Sure, the thinking would be that it ups the pressure on the players. Things is I don't know if either side is particularly sensitive to what the public thinks, so it probably won't make any difference in terms of good strategy. Quote
SoCalTiger Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 I agree neither side cares what the fans think. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted February 10, 2022 Author Posted February 10, 2022 Today I was dropping off a research collection kit to someone and it was 45 degrees and the sun was out. My thoughts turned to that feeling you get when you hear a spring training game on the radio for the first time after the long, dark, depressing winter and then I thought about opening day and I became sad, because I don't think it's happening in April this year. Tigermojo Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Meeting on Saturday. Lots of yelling and expletives and the meeting ended after five minutes. Right on schedule. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted February 10, 2022 Author Posted February 10, 2022 Rob Manfred talking is like adults on Peanuts. WHAU WHAU WHAU WHUA WHUA WHUA 1 Quote
romad1 Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Manfred will manipulate the shit out of that lottery to deny picks to teams he doesn't approve of. JUST like he did with the juiced and non-juiced baseballs last season. Quote
mtutiger Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Part of me is hanging on the comment about how lost regular season games would be catastrophic. But I really don't trust Manfred, I dont. Quote
CMRivdogs Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Keep in mind he is owned by the clubs. We haven't had an impartial Commissioner since Bart Giamatti 1 Quote

SoCalTiger Posted February 12, 2022 Posted February 12, 2022 Just split the difference and be done with it for goodness sake. 1 Quote
oblong Posted February 13, 2022 Posted February 13, 2022 So we will have a delayed season for less than the price of a Rick Porcello on each team. Are there any differences of principal rather than degree? Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted February 13, 2022 Author Posted February 13, 2022 Aren't non-roster players reporting to Spring Training on time? Quote
