that's exactly right.  teams have gotten smart with their money and FINALLY started doing the things that smart fans have been telling them to do for years.

why go to arbitration with that backup catcher and end up paying $4 million ler year when you can get the same or similar production from a $600k rookie?

use the favorable system you have to minimize your labor costs without sunstantially affecting your on field product.  we've all been yelling at them to do this for years and when they finally start doing it, we cry "but but but the players!"

i definitely see why the players want this system changed, its highly favorable to the owners.  with the caveat being the players are very well compensated for their labor.  extremely well compensated.

Analytics has helped to pin down player value. Here in Detroit, we were spoiled by the Mike Ilitch years. He payed like a fan, not an owner.

Wait a minute, you mean the Victor Martinez extension was a bad idea?

BREAKING: MLBPA player leaders agreed unanimously not to accept MLB's final proposal, and there will be no deal on a new collective-bargaining agreement before MLB's 5 p.m. ET deadline, sources tell ESPN. MLB has threatened to cancel its March 31 Opening Day without a new deal.

I have resigned myself over the past week or two that there isn't much reason to be optimistic about a deal being done until there is a done deal.

Just when the Tigers were gonna be good again....

Billionaires fighting millionaires on how to divvy up the fans money. I hope nobody goes to games and nobody watches on TV. Time for a salary cap and a ticket price cap.

Agree 100%.  The worst contract was Upton's I think, paying all that money for one guy to hit 30 homers when for half the price you could get 2 guys to hit 18 each.  Dombrowski outbid himself to get JD to the Red Sox, no one else was going to pay for one-dimensional righthanded power.

It is time to clean up the fishing gear. There will be no baseball in April, May, and quite possibly, June.

With respect to revenues. Those numbers can be twisted.

And they are. Revenue gets twisted off the books to claim losses to Players and Taxman, and magically reappear when it's time to sell the team.

Has anyone published a list that shows what each owner paid for their current team and what they would get for it now?  That would be very interesting to see.

I find is hilarious that owners are complaining about finances when of them signed a guy for $43 million a year.

Piss off...............

Oh my goodness, The very definition of an empty suit.

I was just coming back in to remind everyone that, but for the owners, spring training and the season could be happening, right now and on time, while they negotiate the new CBA.
