Intriguing thought.

I agree, monetary incentives should not be tied to subjective and ill defined awards. Would make more sense to tie it to some combination of WAR and other stats. Of course the value of those stats are somewhat subjective, but at least they are well defined and not subject to writers emotional like or dislike for certain players/teams.

I don't disagree with the basic idea of using performance metrics to determine bonuses or ever service time, necessarily, although WAR is not well-defined enough to use, I don't think. There are at least three different versions of it, including one that's not even called "WAR", and both B-Ref and FG are on record opposing its use.

No he is a man of the people. The only difference is he has 2-3 mansions stashed through the country.

Daily Mail is up in arms about it tho

Seriously I had no idea about the state of his wealth either way. But sure, let's talk about Bernie. That should take our minds off MLB's antitrust exemption.

No more 7 inning double headers or runners on 2nd to start extra innings.

Good!  Starting innings with runners at second base was not baseball.

Three houses for two million is more than anyone needs, but they aren't mansions.  Those are averaged priced houses in some areas.

Boooo to no more Game 163.

There have been many historic game 163's.  I hate to see it go for some lame tie breaker scenario.

what is the effect of the 0-8 players' committee vote? does it carry any weight? or is it meant to be informative?

interesting that only Andrew Miller is unsigned and only Miller and Jason Castro are not signed to HUGE deals of the 8.

edit

Passan said vote was  26-12

The final vote by the MLBPA's eight members of the executive subcommittee and 30 player reps was 26-12 in favor of the agreement, sources told ESPN.

Oh there are a million effects.

Those players could be removed from their union positions.

The players might have egg on their face when people start to ask could this have all been solved on 2 weeks but these guys were being a pain and held everything uap, alone.

In the future, it's clear these 8 want something different from the rank and file. How do the owner negotiate with that. Knowing this group wants x and that group wants y.

hard for someone like Niko Goodrum or Jose Urena to get elected to an executive position when they may not have a 40-man spot.

there is value in having Max and Cole speak to fans and media as well

but 0-8 and 26-4 does show a chasm
