I don't even know this rule. So if no Cowboy had touched it across scrimmage, then it's just Cowboy's ball where ever it stops or is downed by Cinci?

Once it goes past the line of scrimmage, it's essentially treated as a punt. If no one touches it, it's Dallas's ball wherever it lands. Since a Dallas player touched it, it's a live ball like it would be on a muffed punt.

If it's touched behind the line of scrimmage but still goes beyond the line of scrimmage, it's no different than a shanked punt. So AO touching it is no different than it being muffed by the return man.

I guess the complaint by Cowboys fans that it was a bad play was that since the ball wasn't going to go very far, just take it where it's downed. Of course if he had held it and taken it for a TD, he'd be a hero.

right - it's actually the touch on the block (touch behind the line of scrimmage) that is the different rule in that is does not make it a free ball. Had never really thought about the fact that that's a bit of a unique case.

G excluded as he is way smarter than most people already. You can see the casual fans have no idea about most nfl rules. The punt and the Goff knee folks crying the rules need changed. I like that someone used the holder for field goals as an example of knee being down as an example.

That’s why I don’t think it’s fair to compare this to the Leon Lett play. The game was over if Lett had just minded his own business and stayed away from the ball, instead of ignoring the 3 Dallas players that were waving everyone away. It was a gaffe.

Amani’s play last night was effectively a fumbled punt on an attempted run back, not a mental gaffe. The Cowboys would have been close to field goal position, but not quite in it, if he had just fallen on it or left it alone. Yes, that still would have been the smart play. But he saw open yards ahead of him so I get why he did it. Problem is he didn’t execute.

I dint know if this is legit, but it would be wild. It’s probably the school his girlfriend is going to enroll at.

I have seen a bunch of rumors trending that this is true. He is going to make the ACC great again!

Who are we rooting for in Rams/49ers?

I think the Rams are better, but a Rams win may help eliminate the Niners before they play the Lions.

My thought process also. But both teams look like they are playing to lose tonight.

Speaks to how good the Lions and Packers are that they were able to both perform so well in this god forsaken Thursday Night game. Though they both had six days between games, these teams both had three.

Why is OPI a ten yard penalty while DPI is spot of the foul? It seems disparate, even in a league that loves itself some offense. College has it as 15-yard penalty for OPI, and a spot foul under 15 yards for DPI, to a max of 15 yards. NFL reduces the OPI and increases the DPI.

OPI should be more onerous. Loss of down, 15 yards, something to make it sting on the same level as a DPI does.
