Far worse than the one they called on Aaron Rodgers in 2015.

I'm sure Vikings fans will just take it as a given that they would go 80 yards and get a two-point conversion in 90 seconds without a timeout and then win in overtime.

you should have heard them complain after the lions game.  fans are fans.

that said, that's a 15 yard penalty and a first down at the 20(ish) yard line as opposed to the game being pretty much over.  its a huge miss.

bugs me because now the viking fans feel aggrieved when if they looked at it without bias, they'd see that flores' vaunted defense has been carved up two games in a row and san darnold is who we thought he was.  and this time, they didnt let him off the hook.

I was watching that thinking about how the Lions never would have given the Vikings that ball back - especially not with 1:50 left - after converting the late 3rd down.

Campbell has been in that same situation several times and trusts his players enough to throw for a 1st down and win the game on offense. McVay refused to go for any TDs in last year's playoff game on 4th down. I think they were in the red zone 4 times with no touchdowns? Dan Campbell would never be that afraid, play not to lose instead of to win. McVay is the most over-rated coach in the NFL.

lol Vikings fans have to be losing their minds after that no call.  Never mind they were pinned on the three with 90 seconds left and not timeouts.

As Lions fans, we know the feeling. And it's kinda funny when it happens to other teams, especially teams in our division.

To be fair, that was a huge no call. I would be upset too. That game would still be very winnable if the penalty is called.

No doubt. I'd be pissed.

But ESPN analytics had the Rams at a 99.9% chance of victory after the declined Illegal Formation penalty on first down. Darnold forcing a throw into double coverage and getting picked was far more likely than them marching down the field. But you never know, especially with Jefferson.

Not “very” winnable.  Still have to march down the field and convert a 2, then win the coin toss and score a TD after scoring 6 pts after the first quarter.  They had a chance. But it was an outside chance.

Definitely a different Rams team when healthy although you can say that about a lot of teams in the NFL.   For the first time, I feel like this Lions team does have next guy up and can withstand injuries.  We will need to replace Hutch although its nice to know we finally have an organization that can find talent and coaches that can scheme to compensate for the losses.  I wonder if this win takes Kupp off the trade market or just ups the cost.

Yeah, I can't feel sorry for anyone else.  Not after what we've seen here.

Brandon Perna from That's Good Sports, a Broncos fan, often will cite this in his videos.  He gets it.   (you can watch the videos on You Tube)

I hate the new crack down on illegal formation.    They never used to call receivers for being 6 inches too far off the line as it really has no impact on the play.   It now seems to get called 2-3 times a game and I don’t really see the giant benefit to enforcing it so closely.    It’s ticky tack which becomes even more frustrating when they are missing other big obvious calls that have a huge impact on the game.

I also am beginning to get frustrated with constant false starts.  Some are obvious and must be called but again every game I see a defensive player point at a tiny flinch from a OL and it’s an immediate flag.  The zebras need to let a few of these go and not get baited whenever a DL stops and points.

The automatic replay also needs to be changed to come in and make a call like last night when it’s obvious that a blatant personal foul has been missed.  Need to eliminate the rule where if a flag wasn’t thrown on the field, a terrible mistake can’t be fixed.   At the very least, they should  amend and have the ability to intercede within the last 2:00 of a game.

Yeah the false start thing is especially annoying, like Greg Olsen said during the Lions game if the defenders just point at the o lineman he's confident the refs will throw the flag whether a guy moved or not.

I mean it's hard to stay motionless in that position for several seconds, especially when you're 6'5 300+lbs so there needs to some leeway.

Great marketing!

To defend the officials briefly, you can kind of see why it’s so hard to get this correct. The referee in the frame can’t tell if he’s got the shoulder pad or face mask. The official opposite the one in frame is looking through the defender to see it. No referee is where the camera angle shows it to be obvious. It all is happening obscenely fast.

You’re basically asking them to call something they don’t see, that is probably (but maybe not) there based on all the indicators available (the way the head turns, the way Darnold immediately reacts, and the way the defender reacts). And when you go off of cues instead of actually seeing it happen, you can just as easy get a phantom face mask on Aaron Rodgers when none occurred, where he then rips a Hail Mary off a Jim Caldwell defense that is guarding the sidelines.

Facemask from the side will cause the head to turn abruptly in a way that couldn’t be happen from grabbing the pads or collar.  This is actually one of the penalties that they don’t need to see the full infraction.   That abrupt head turn that moves much faster than the  rest of the body is only caused from a facemask.

The Rodgers phantom facemask was just a terrible call.  There was no head jerk that differentiated from the body and it was more from the front.  He fell and embellished and they bought it.

One of the football accounts I follow on Twitter brought up a point about the Vikings defense.

He said with gadgety type defenses that Flores uses that relies more on different blitz packages and less on actual talent tend to get worse as the season goes on when teams get more and more film on them and make the proper adjustments.

Let's see if that plays out that way this year, judging by the last 2 weeks that could end up being the case.
