Motown Bombers Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Jets probably don't have better options. Nobody will want to coach there. Quote

Their offense had a few nice weeks but they’ve been awful the last 6 games or so. Steeler fans would probably be jumping for joy to lose him. Maybe these sad-sack ownership groups think if they hire him his dad would take the franchise off of their hands. Quote

Motown Bombers Posted January 7 Posted January 7 They just hired him in 2023. Who will want that job? Giving Dave Teppert a run for his money. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 7 Posted January 7 They signed him to an extension after one year, and then fired him a year later. This is even worse than the same old Lions era. Quote
Hongbit Posted January 7 Posted January 7 The AFC South is the easiest division in football. The opportunity for a quick turnaround exists with any of the teams. I think that alone would make the Titans a coveted job for any GM candidate. Having the top pick is also a nice bonus. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 7 Posted January 7 No one good is going to want to work for a team that will fire you after a year. Quote

This is even worse than the same old Lions era. It's not like he was very good though. Will Levis is a bust, Skoronski is a good pass blocker but a liability in the run game, which is not good enough as a #8 overall pick, and JC Latham hasn't looked special as a rookie. T'Vondre Sweat has looked good, but that's not enough to really inspire confidence... He's been even worse in free agency. Four years and $92 million to 30-year-old Calvin Ridley? Three years and $24 million to Tony Pollard? He spent like a contender and then got the worst record in the league. Most GMs don't get the chance to select two franchise QBs. If he's going to screw up the first one with Will Levis, and you don't have full confidence in him to get the 1st overall pick right, it's probably the right move. Honestly, they should have fired him last year and kept Vrabel. Quote

I wouldn't want to work for this bipolar organization. I wouldn't even doubt if ownership pressured him into signing players so they can win now. Quote

I’d probably agree if he had a middling season at 7-10 or 8-9 but they were the worst team in the league. I don’t see many candidates having a problem with ownership pulling the cord after such a disappointing season. He also has to own the Will Levis pick that looks terrible at the moment. Quote

Jason_R Posted January 7 Posted January 7 I love this meme of Detroit’s domination of the NFL on so many measures. Quote
Jason_R Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Not only does Dan Campbell deserve the award, they should rename it to the Dan Campbell Coach of the Year award. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 8 Posted January 8 The problem with coach of the year is that it is always about exceeding expectations. The Lions had Super Bowl expectations, and they did their part by winning the division and contending for the one seed. Coaches like O'Connell and Quinn far exceeded expectations, and those are the ones who usually win. Quote

It's always funny though how if you go from say projected 6 wins to 10 people put more stock in it than going from say 11 to 15 even though you overachieved by the same amount of wins. Like the Lions for instance had an over/under of 10.5 going into the year and that of course couldn't of factored in all the injuries or a team like Minnesota being so much better. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted January 8 Posted January 8 I thought Campbell should have won it in 2022 when Daboll won it. The Lions went from 3 wins to 9 wins, but Daboll won a bunch of flukey games and finished with 9 wins and won it. The Lions that year, as a 9-8 team, had a better point differential than the 13-4 Vikings. Increasing your win total and meeting expectations every year doesn't win you awards. Having a fluke season and immediately going back to a terrible team like with Daboll does. Quote
Jason_R Posted January 8 Posted January 8 Even so, if, hypothetically speaking, Dan Campbell were somehow to become available at the end of the season, there is not an owner in the NFL who wouldn’t see him as an upgrade. Maybe the Hunt family would be justified in hanging on to Andy Reid over Campbell in this hypothetical scenario, but then again, Reid may retire (or have a massive coronary) at any time. Maybe the Rooney family would stick with Tomlin, who is a stud in his own right. The Harbaugh boys might be safe. The Walmart folks might be afraid to call Sean Payton into their office. But even these franchises would take a long hard look. Quote
Sports_Freak Posted January 8 Posted January 8 The Lions this year averaged 33.2 points a game. They averaged giving up 20.1 points per game. So...the average scores of their games was 33-20. Amazing Quote
