It's interesting, and obviously noteworthy to home, but Fraley has never been a play caller at any level. I'm not sure it would be a good move for a defensive-minded head coach like Macdonald to promote an OL coach to OC. I figured it would make more sense for Johnson to take Fraley with him, if Fraley wanted an OC job.

It is a curious move. I know Seattle interviewed Engstrand last year for OC. I would take Engstrand over Fraley as a play caller.

As with Spielman, I assume some of these interviews are as much intelligence gathering opportunities as anything else. Maybe Spielman or Fraley will knock the interviews out of the park, but a lot of franchises want to know the ingredients of the special sauce.

A lot of these teams interview people who have no shot of getting the job. The Jets probably want to hear an outside assessment of their organization from a guy who came in and made an assessment of a downtrodden franchise and set them on a path to the NFL elite. The Lions interviewed a lot of people for GM. They could also be sizing up Spielman for another role in the organization. Sheila interviewed Dorsey for GM and the word was she liked him, and she ended up finding a spot for him.

I’m not sure that you can send the Jets a stronger message that you’re their guy than telling Robert Kraft and the Pats to **** off.

Honestly, I think the Patriots may be the best opening. They're the least dysfunctional other than the Saints, but they have a young QB, gobs of cap space, and a high draft pick that the Saints don't have.

He played for the Jets and coached in New Orleans. My money is on New Orleans. The Jets are way too dysfunctional.

The Saints should have hired him instead of Dennis Allen. He should drag it out and get as many millions as he can from them this time around.

I think they know how bad it is though after they treated the salary cap like monopoly money for a decade. He'll have a long leash.

Interim coaches almost never get the gig, especially when they don't completely turn things around (which is very difficult in the NFL).      The Raiders, who can **** up hiring a coach with the best of 'em,  should have kept Rich Bisaccia because he did an amazing job and came within a questionable referee call from beating the eventual AFC champs (Bengals).    So then, the next time they had an interim they did the opposite and kept him, and I actually think he deserved the shot because he did a good job last year.  The Raiders failings are coming from the office more than the locker room.   How do you expect a team that has an owner with that haircut to figure it out?

There’s an element to the Dan Campbell experience that only works in a few select locations. Detroit, Pittsburgh, Buffalo… maybe Cincinnati or Cleveland…

The “we are going to take on the identity of this city” piece to his intro press conference is real. He did. Meanwhile Mike McDaniel took on the identity of the city of Miami and it appears to have led to a Charmin soft football team and a cocaine addiction.

That’s not to say Campbell wouldn’t have success in Miami, but I don’t think he would be the cult hero that he is here.

Campbell learned a lot under Payton. He's even said his 4th down aggressiveness is because of Payton. I think Campbell goes the way of Antonio Pierce if Miami hired him.

What's interesting about Pierce is that was the guy who McDaniels yelled at when Pierce tried to motivate the team by talking about his Giants upsetting the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl.    Oh Raiders, don't ever change.  You're adorable.

I say the Bears problem are the GM (who they're keeping?), as well as their coaching staff. If they get some decent coaches, they may be a problem.

He's going to the Saints, I bet. New York is about dysfunctional as an organization can be. But they do have a decent defense....
