the 1st half was fun just to see KC get their hat handed to them after escaping so many games they could/should have lost this season. The 2nd half was definitely a snooze fest other than the Mahomes bombs at the end. I was at least a bit surprised/disappointed in Andy Reid though. He has one of the most escapable QBs in the NFL and hardly rolled him out or reversed or screened, or basically did anything to try to freeze the Philly D-line penetration. Maybe he decided they were too over matched for anything to work.

With all the praise heaped on Reid as a genius I was surprised at how poorly he coached the game, as you pointed out. I wonder if the success of the past led them to think, okay we got sacked that down, but Mahomes will elude the rush next time and make a big play. Instead he got sacked again.

There is speculation that Kelce might retire, would Reid? The poor SB as a final game of a career would be a drag, but tgey do have several rings.

Wonder if we'll get the NFL opener against the Eagles this season? Looking at their schedule I'd have to imagine it's between us or the Commanders.

The league doesn't like division matchups for that game. I think it's between the Lions and Rams. Broncos have an outside shot. The Lions have been an incredible draw the past couple years, so I think the Lions are a good shot at it.

I'd like it for a couple of reasons. First it's always cool to watch your team in prime time games, secondly I feel week 1 is more volatile than any other week, especially now that teams rarely play their starters in preseason so if you have to play an elite team on the road the first week would probably give you the best chance to pull an upset.

Mahomes went down real hard on an early sack. Head slammed into the turf. No way of knowing if that impacted his play but it didn’t help.

Anyway my preference has always been to build the defensive line from the inside out. Don’t get me wrong, I love Hutch on the outside, but if you have an overpowering defensive tackle, there is little an offense can do to stop it.

If this was the audio heard on TV last night many more people would have enjoyed it. The audio feed was really bad and I couldn’t understand a word he was saying. Which made it a terrible performance.

I think of it less as a terrible performance than as a terrible presentation.

I could make an 'old man yells at cloud' lament about RAP in general but I just let you all assume one from me....

I heard Brady say that interior pressure bothered him more than edge rushers. If a player gets to the QB, I don't care where he comes from. It just makes the secondary look better, receivers don't have time to run around and get open.

Looking back on the history of the Kickoff Game, they don’t like a divisional  matchup but it has happened 4 times before.  Maybe Washington would be the best choice assuming they want to hold off on the Lions.

Zack Martin of the Cowboys retired yesterday, only reason I bring this up is cause I read one of the most insane stats I ever seen in my life earlier about him. In his 11 seasons and 171 starts he was only called for 5 holding penalties total and not a single one in pass protection.

I think I saw he had more All Pros than accepted holding penalties. Incredible.

There was some discussion a while back on how better to police the play clock. It looks like the NHL may have a solution of sorts. Smart watches. These are watches loaded with apps especially for NHL referees, they are kept at the stadiums and used by about 70 per cent of the refereeing crews.

Basically the watch have a series of timers that send a pulse to the wearer about timing needs. It goes off on such things as 5 five minute left in play 2 minutes one minute 30 seconds and does a countdown. Same with penalties and so forth.

Just assign a watch to the appropriate referee, it automatically starts when the play clock starts and pulses when when it expires. That way the ref doesn't have to keep one eye on the clock and the other in the https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6163747/2025/02/28/nhl-referees-apple-watch-2025-regular-season/?campaign=12766679&source=athletic_targeted_email&userId=213687

I don't think it needs to be as complicated as a smart watch... just needs to be a buzzer tied to the play clock. But I do like the idea. As you said the ref doesn't need to watch the play clock then, s/he can focus on the ball. Feel the buzz while seeing the ball still on the ground? Throw the flag. See the ball move before the buzz? Then you can ignore the buzz.

As long as Mahomes still gets to snap the ball a second after the buzz and Jawaan Taylor gets to keep lining up offsides I think the NFL would be ok with a buzzer. Seriously though, the shot clock in the basketball buzzes loudly, no reason the NFL's play clock cannot either.
