I just don't want to trade away one of our best power hitters. Ibanez has a nice warm seat on the bench for pinch hitting against LH pitchers. Yes, but he’s only a power hitter vs RHPs. Granted, that’s the better side of the platoon, so that helps. But like I said, if he can be used as trade bait to bring back something to help elsewhere on the roster, I’d be interested. Quote

CMU97 Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I just did a quick search to see if Detroit ever had any other Cobbs besides Ty. The answer is yes. Joe Cobb in 1918. He might be our moonlight Graham. 1 game, 1 at bat, 1 walk. OBP of 1.000. 1 1 Quote

RandyMarsh Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Nothing about Cobb's savant page jumps out and excites me but I'll trust Harris and the scouting department since they hit on Lorenzen and Flaherty the past 2 seasons. Quote

Even if his pitching still sucks, he’ll be popular at the beach. And Edman owes me an apology when I suggested a few years back that Keith could be an option at 1B given our glut of poor fielding middle infielders. I still have the scars from that takedown (and the receipts). Quote

I’d like to see Keith get some time at 3B, but I guess maybe his shoulder/arm can’t handle it? 1B seems like it might get crowded in a few seasons, but I suppose it’s foolish to assume all of the current and potential 1B options will make it that far. I don't think I ever remember being adamantly against Keith at 1B. I am generally against listing off future lineups as if that is a realistic way to present anything, so if one had Keith at 1B, it wasn't the 1B Keith that had me riled up. As long as the big markets can afford to outbid places like Det, they will. A contract like Soto's - or the one Skubal will get if he stays healthy - is suicide for a team like the Tigers. Ilitch can talk a good game about being willing, but the $ are not there in this market when push comes to shove and the league isn't going to allow teams to operate at a loss. Doesn't matter if the owner has the money - the team still has to be solvent. Ok now can we get some reality in the post please. The Mets or dodgers tv contracts haven't changed in years. Give you a guess what has changed. The big markets tv deals aren't the ones that are gonna price the Tigers of the market. Thier profit this year was second best. It's chris didn't spend. Not saying he had to go crazy but pumping skubal by even 30 million doesn't erase those profits and that doesn't include the bump in tickets and merchandise from seemingly fielding a better team with him on it. We spent only 38 percent payroll to revenue so there is plenty of room for growth. We probably can't do 4 700 million guys. But one or two.skubals isn't a problem for teams of detroit's market size.
