I’m not sure that Detroit is as tough of a sell as that. The dude just spent his whole career in Houston, and that place is horrid.

In a recent Fox News Detroit article Dan Campbell was talking about Detroit’s tradition of success that he wants the Lions to emulate and he only mentioned the Pistons and the Red Wings more recent successes as a goal, inferring by omission that the Tigers not winning the World Series in 40 years and only two in the last 80 years is perhaps not a tradition to emulate or at least is one that it’s safe to ignore.

He’s probably right and it puts in perspective the meager accomplishments of the Tigers at this highest level. But I have to admit that this lack of attention for the Tigers which bothered me is probably rationally well deserved.

Locked on Tigers podcast had an interesting take on this. He posited (with the disclaimer that he had zero inside info, just his gut feeling) that the Tigers made their "best offer" to Bregman and that Bregman's camp is basically us this as a fall back option... that they are waiting to see if anyone gives a better deal but if not they go back to the Tigers and start negotiating in earnest.

LOL - if the Tigers really have put an offer on the table and Boras is forced to come back to them because he wasn't able to beat it, I don't think he will be have much success convincing the Tigers to start negotiating against themselves  - though I'm sure he will try.

I’ve already mentioned this, but I will admit once again to being a blue bleeding Dodger fan for ONE season.

But my defense is that I was living in Tucson, Arizona, and it was the only way I could follow baseball on local radio and I was recuperating from a serious motorcycle accident and zoned out on pain medication and unable to leave my bedroom so it was like being in jail and listening to Vin Scully was better than looking at cracks in the wall.

It was a pretty exciting season too. It was Fernando‘s first full season after his rookie year in the strike shortened ‘81 season and I was pretty upset that the Dodgers finished one game behind the Braves for second place in the West Division.

But I don’t despise the Dodgers even now and since one of my daughters lives in LA and goes to Dodger games on occasion, it’s not like I’m going to rain on her parade, but I sure don’t go out of my way to root for them myself, although I was fine with them beating the Yankees last year. If it’s Dodgers Yanks again I guess I’ll be rooting for the pinstripes whether I like it or not.

Flaherty is the guy that would make my off-season. Hinch and the kiddy corps  will find ways to score runs with or without Bregman, but while the Tigs have a lot of arms, they need another one that's bone fide top line, and Jack should be it.

Have there been any updates on Baez’ condition? How ready is he to go on the first day of spring training? I haven’t heard much on his status in a while.

Most recent thing I have seen was from last month  - he's supposedly started running. A "fighting chance" to be ready. (?)

I don't think they will score a lot of runs as the team stands now.  If things go reasonably well, I think they will have an average offense.  Their infield defense is a big problem.  I do believe believe they have a top 10 starting rotation and Hinch knows how to work the bullpen, but you never know about pitching health.  I'd love to see them add Flaherty or Pivetta.
