There are the Los Angeles Dodgers and then there is everyone else, which lumps Detroit in, too. No sure if you got your ass kicked in Detroit, or just had your lunch money stolen, but not everyone shares your dim view. u seem mad Quote
Tiger337 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Whether it's real or not, people who don't live in Detroit generally don't have a good view of it. They aren't the only city like that, but it's probably not a good selling point in negotiations. Quote
chasfh Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Decades of negative media coverage of a city will definitely hurt its image. It also doesn't help that the Tigers organization took a huge reputational hit after Dombrowski left. It was always going to take time to rebuild that, and it's very frustrating to be in the middle of it, but unfortunately, we're simply not there yet. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I don't think players care all that much about the actual city, especially baseball where you play essentially everyday during the season so with no free time anyway it doesn't matter whether you're in Detroit or Paris. Also your off-season is in the winter so you miss the worst of the weather as well. What they do care about is the franchise in general, they can handle a sub par city if the franchise is a winner but if it isn't they aren't going to choose to play there for any significant length of time unless they are heavily compesitated. 1 Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Kahnle would be a solid addition to the pen. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I hate the idea of trading Spencer Torkelson to the Twins. If he finds himself, just not in our own division, please. Quote

Are you responding to a report or something? I saw something the other day that the Tigers asking price, for any team interested, will be two top 15 prospects. I thought it was so ridiculous I didn’t give it anymore thought. Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I keep seeing Torkelson being rumored to go to the Mets. Quote

I think that just because the Mets haven't settled at 1b and they are always willing to spend stupid to get what they want. I don't know that there has been anything on our side though. Quote

chasfh Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I like the pick up of Tommy Kahnle. The only thing I don’t like is that he walks the world. Quote
Tiger337 Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Tommy Kahnle once threw 56 consecutive change-ups. 2 Quote

papalawrence Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Nice bullpen pick-up. Now it's time to get Flaherty. Skubal is pushing for it. I'll throw in some baklava to get it done Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted January 29 Posted January 29 What if Chris Illitch decided that he wanted his own stadium and decided to move the team to Nashville? Would baseball allow it? Would baseball allow the White Sox to move? They almost did in the past, but I can't see MLB allowing a legacy team like that to leave now. I know they are whining about a downtown stadium and how the Bears get more love. Maybe losing less than 121 games might help. Quote

Heck, he could be both good and bad with the same batter.................... Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted January 29 Posted January 29 As far as Detroit's bad image. That will never change with some people and let's not be too fooled here. As cool as it is to see a vibrant downtown again, a real city that I never experienced here in my life, the city is still pretty horrible outside of that. People ARE trying, no doubt, but I don't think the city will ever shake the image that you see at the beginning of Beverly Hills Cop. That'll ALWAYS be what Detroit is to some. Some hotshot millionaire ballplayer doesn't want to stoop to live in a high-end hotel for four months, then I say fine, we don't need ya anyway, we'll be just peachy. The athletes that do come here and give us a try and even have just a little success..........they seem to fall in love with the place, don't they? Hey, we're serious sports fans here. It's what got us through a lot of tough times. We know our ****e here and our media won't crap on you like New York or Philly. Quote
