Beautiful.  2 year deal for Flaherty for 35 mil.  Opt out after the first year.

I like our rotation now.  Skubal/Flaherty/Olsen/Cobb/Jobe or Mize.  That will be verrry competitive in the ALC this year.

Really just one 25. No way he doesn't opt out.

I’m good with that because it buys us time with Jobes progression, gives us a year to see how SGL returns from injury, and gives us one more year to decide what to do with the likes of Mize/Manning/Montero/Hurter.

I can think of two ways:

  1. He’s hurt.
  2. He sucks.

Each are squarely within the range of outcomes.

It more than kind of stinks I have to root for him to opt out.

This is not a that large an economic commitment, I wonder if an offer to Bregman remains on the table.

I would think so, especially since it’s not a long commitment.  Nice to see a guy who wanted to be here come back.  Makes the LA trade even better.  Shades of Jim Slaton and the Brewers.

Also makes me wonder if one of our young SP could be dealt (Mize?) for a bat.

We can always trade him for more top 100 prospects at the deadline too….

Nice Slaton reference. Still mad the Tigers lost Benji!

Cobb pitched 16 innings and got 14 million.

Look of course if he blows out his arm he's not gonna opt out. But then he's lost for that second year anyway.

I'm a big fan of that Flaherty deal. We now have three solid, reliable starters in the rotation again and were able to do it for minimal costs. Well, we should be resigning Skubal to a big deal, but that hasn't happened yet.

No need for him to be off the table.  The Tigers do not have a big payroll.  The question with him is if he has better offers.

If anything, assuming that Bowden is right and the Tigers have the best offer on the table (big assumption), I would think Flaherty might make it ever so slightly more appealing to sign here
