That could carry some weight. 1 Quote
Tigermojo Posted February 3 Posted February 3 I think if Flaherty pitches well and opts out they could give him a qualifying offer. Quote
Tigermojo Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Ilitch never spends money. It's going to be cool for all those guys when Flaherty gets his ring. Quote

holygoat Posted February 3 Posted February 3 So the "trade him, then re-sign him in the off-season" unicorn has finally made an appearance. I love this signing, btw. 1 Quote
HeyAbbott Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Great signing. Pitching looks set. I am waiting patiently for the end of the Bregman saga. Quote

IdahoBert Posted February 3 Posted February 3 I just didn’t imagine he would go this cheap. Maybe he likes the chili dogs. Quote

Makes the LA trade even better. Shades of Jim Slaton and the Brewers. Also makes me wonder if one of our young SP could be dealt (Mize?) for a bat. Mize has almost no trade value. The only bat he's bringing back is an inconsequential one. Quote
Tiger337 Posted February 3 Posted February 3 (edited) No need to trade Mize. He will be the first one to step in when the inevitable injury happens. They need lots of pitching depth. Edited February 3 by Tiger337 1 Quote

SoCalTiger Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Captain Jack is back !! and I love it !! I am guessing the Bregman deal is not happening so Harris correctly decided pitching would be even more important. I still think Grischuk would be good add with Verling playing third. Quote

I believe they will still have around the league average payroll if they sign him. It's still probably not happening, but I don't think that's because of Flaherty signing. Quote
casimir Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Wow, Flaherty returns, and on that safe contract! I think I just peed myself a little bit. Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted February 3 Posted February 3 How does this freeze Mize out? 1 - Skubal 2 - Flaherty 3 - Cobb 4 - Olson 5 - Mize Or Mize in the bullpen. They'll still need Manning, Montero, Hurter, and others to start games this year too. Don't give up on Mize. I know it's his last shot, but now he's had a full post-TJ season, he should be as right as he's gonna be this year. Unless he completely blows everyone away in Spring Training, I don't see Jobe making this team on Opening Day. They are going to strictly monitor his innings anyway. I can see him pitching sparingly in spring and then sparingly in Lakeland for a month until it gets warmer in Toledo. Quote
