But tell me whether do you think this doesn’t make sense, and then tell me why not. Offer Bregman 6/180. Front-load it to be 40 in each of the first two years, and 25 in each of the last four. Give him a player option after the first year, and give us a team option after the second year. If Bregman declines the option after year one and the Tigers exercise the option after year two, the last four years become guaranteed. This gives Bregman a super high salary for this season, and if he slays, he can opt out and try his luck on the market again. We will have gotten a tremendous season, and we can keep our current prospects in the wings to try again in 2026. If Bregman does poorly enough to not exercise his player option, he could come back for another year, and if he slays, we can then pick up the rest of the contract guaranteed, and if he doesn’t, we can let him go. It would have to be basically an All-Star season in year two for us to pick it up. Then I feel like we could get close to pretty good value from him for his remaining years here at the price of 4/100. I doubt he’s going to have a Javy drop off because his skill set is much more solid than Javy’s was when he came here. This won’t happen, of course, but tell me why this won’t work. I like the thinking. I would also say that the Tigers have looked/asked Alex (Boras) about many ideas... something like this may well be one of them. Nothing to not like. Though if Alex, a one year opt out with Detroit may not make too much sense because of the park - and he would be one year older next FA season. An opt out with Boston or Toronto would make more sense. With said any good GM/staff can see what a particular ballpark might do in that regard - and add to the fact that Alex will be one year older. It's just a long article saying: "There probably no real impact, but we don't know." I think it is worth pointing out that the divorce papers were filed in late August, so this isn't any surprise and all off season has progressed knowing that the divorce was in the works. Quote

The Trust structure very likely insulates Chris' role as managing trustee from the details of however ownership/beneficiary shares might shift. He could theoretically have no ownership stake in the trust at all and still remain managing trustee. I would have to guess bigger changes could be at play for the Wings when Marion passes. I wish they would sell to Ishbia or Gilbert. Either would spend like Mike did in the 2000’s Quote
Tenacious D Posted Tuesday at 06:20 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:20 PM It was mentioned we’re thin at C—any interest in bringing Old Friend, James McCann, back as insurance. He’s currently a free agent and had a solid season (by catcher standards) last year. McCosky would cream his jeans Quote
RatkoVarda Posted Tuesday at 06:25 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:25 PM I don't think Plays The Right Way would accept a minor league deal to go to Toledo. Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted Tuesday at 06:46 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:46 PM I'm thinking it's Bregman to Detroit - 2 year deal for $62 million with a player opt-out after a year. Quote

Maybe we can get something in place that hooks us for no more than two years, if that. I can't help but believe he'd much rather go to Boston and play second, though. Quote
IdahoBert Posted Tuesday at 09:11 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:11 PM I read that article about the divorce and was surprised at how the Red Wings are more highly valued as a property than the Tigers. Quote

RandyMarsh Posted Tuesday at 10:14 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:14 PM I'm a bit concerned about Bregman going forward given his subpar season and age but unless he pulls a complete Javy he should still be an upgrade for the Tigers and given that I'm hoping we sign him. A couple years down the road we may have egg on our face but I'll cross that bridge when the time comes. Quote
