A possible exception might be Skubal - but if he stays healthy (a big IF) Skubal/Boras would never agree with it.

To clarify this - I meant SHarris would not be signing any FA 'pitcher' to a 5 year deal (which I have stated here before - and I agree with that premise on Pitchers). Yes, he may be open to extending Skubal (however again if healthy I do not see that happening with Boras).

Flaherty on the other hand maybe 2-3 years with opt outs (he would be a good fit here again, IMHO).

Actually, I would not be totally surprised if the Tigers do have a 4-5 year offer in mind with Bregman. The fact is I do not see them signing any younger FA star position player to a longer term deal anytime soon - that and most position players are not that open to coming here (esp RH hitters). Too many other spots that 'most' might seek. I think because of the A.J. connection - Bregman might come here IF the sides can agree on the terms that might work for both parties.

I would bet that Harris has been aware of Skubal's thoughts for some time  They probably don't carry a lot of weight, but not zero either.  Skubal is probably the best reason to get something done this winter rather than waiting until some time in the future when they no longer have the best pitcher in baseball.

Yes they will..........Jackson Jobe will still be under team control for several years.

The fact that Bregman hasn't signed yet, with anyone, and it's almost February tells me the Tigers are not being stupid.

The Tigers have not been held back by regrettable contracts.  They have been held back by lack of player development and that seems to be changing fast.

No, certainly not for several years. They hit $200M in 2016 but payroll started dropping after that and they certainly haven't  been under anything close to luxury tax pressure since then. They may felt or claimed they were held back if internally they had picked a numbers they didn't want to go beyond in any particular year, but as a fan I don't care about that, that's just another way of saying "we don't want to spend the money."

lol slamming Harris for manipulating the fan base into thinking we actually wanted to trade for Pressly when all Harris really wants to do is work with Baby Doc to drive the payroll down to zero and destroy the franchise for good. 😉

I've read multiple stories about this and I see nothing indicating the Pressly wanted to go to only the Cubs and not to any of the other 29 teams. I saw where the Blue Jays had interest but a lot of players don't want to go to Toronto, either. So yeah, I agree we're not being singled out, but the fact is he didn't want to come to Detroit, and that's all the headline says.

So does Altuve, who has said he will move to left field specifically if the Astros sign Bregman, and now that the Astros have traded both Tucker and Pressly, they have the payroll flexibility to sign him. My not-so-bold prediction now is that Bregman ends up back in Houston.

I agree with this, although I doubt that would entail Harris and Baby Doc hamstring the team in years 3-5 just so we can win in years 1 and 2. That would be more of a Dombrowski/Papa Doc move. Plus, Harris is already on record as not wanting to block Jace Jung.

If Bregman wants to come here on a one-year prove-it pillow deal, I'd guess Harris/Ilitch would be all over that.

Don't follow that. Why would a 2B move to LF because a team resigns their current 3B?

But he hasn't been any worse recently than he always was (at least by Rdrs). I guess a couple of Houston's top prospects are IF's.

Speculation is that Paredes would move to 2B to free up 3B for Bregman.  Altuve to LF.  Again, only speculation.

Move Paredes to second and put Bregman at third (although it would certainly be better for them to put Bregman at second instead), and Altuve sucks at second now.
