If anything, assuming that Bowden is right and the Tigers have the best offer on the table (big assumption), I would think Flaherty might make it ever so slightly more appealing to sign here

Yes, he is the biggest free agent to sign with the Tigers during the Harris era.  That could carry some weight.

Rosenthal said 2nd year goes to $20 if he makes 15 starts which he should.  If he doesn’t… then he probably will not opt out.

I wonder if there was an opener clause in the contract.

So the "trade him, then re-sign him in the off-season" unicorn has finally made an appearance.

I love this signing, btw.

It was a great trade.

Did they ever use an opener in Skubal or Flaherty starts? I think they started that after he was traded but I doubt they would do that with those two.

I would think so, especially since it’s not a long commitment.  Nice to see a guy who wanted to be here come back.  Makes the LA trade even better.  Shades of Jim Slaton and the Brewers.

Also makes me wonder if one of our young SP could be dealt (Mize?) for a bat.

Mize has almost no trade value. The only bat he's bringing back is an inconsequential one.

No need to trade Mize.  He will be the first one to step in when the inevitable injury happens.  They need lots of pitching depth.

We should have plenty. This could be the Toledo rotation, depending how the bullpen nets out:

Mize

Montero

Manning

Madden

Gipson-Long

I wouldn't do that to Mize. I would try to keep him up.

Captain Jack is back !! and I love it !!

I am guessing the Bregman deal is not happening so Harris correctly decided pitching would be even more important. I still think Grischuk would be good add with Verling playing third.
