IdahoBert Posted February 11 Posted February 11 When the Tigers win 112 games in 2025 Bregman will be really sorry he wasn’t a part of it since they could’ve won 114 if he’d signed. 1 Quote
romad1 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 (edited) Tigers made a trade for a RHP? Is this real? Feels like AI is punking us. EDIT: Yep...its ai garbage Edited February 11 by romad1 1 Quote
RandyMarsh Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I still don't see us signing him but if we do and the 6 yr rumor is true I think an outcome to realistically hope for is for him to be like Kinsler was here. If we got 3-4 yrs of peak Tiger Kinsler production I could live with 2 albatross years at the end. Quote
1776 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 If you can believe the rumor mill, Chicago, Boston, and Detroit have multi-year deals on the table for Bregman. I don’t want to see him in Detroit but…anything over three years would be foolish, two years being reasonable in my opinion. If part of the plan here is to bring in a veteran presence for the younger guys while solidifying third base, signing a guy that participated in a cheating scandal wouldn’t be my idea of a good choice, under any circumstances for that matter. I’ll be glad when this Bregman is signed elsewhere and we’re talking about spring training. 1 Quote
Hongbit Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Nothing seems to have really changed in the past two weeks. Same game of chicken. I don’t see anything new until any of the rumored teams signs someone else and officially signals they are out of it. That will start to pick things up again with both Boras and the remaining suitors. Quote

I think the while “veteran presence” thing is generally overblown, but to the degree it’s valid, based on everything he has shown us this offseason, Bregman probably ain’t it. 1 Quote

What has he shown us? He has hardly said anything at all. Almost everything that has been said about him is speculation. 1 1 Quote
oblong Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Is there any other explanation that he's over valuing himself? You are worth what you can get. He hasn't signed and spring training starts soon. Maybe all the teams are being stupid and cheap but why should a team be expected to pay more than they have to? Quote
Tiger337 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 There could be active negotiations going on that we don't know about. Or maybe he he is close to signing with some team but they are ironing out details on a complicated contract. Quote
Dan Gilmore Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I suspect he much prefers to stay in Houston (I have nothing to base that on) and entertained offers from others when that seemed impossible. Then the Astros traded Tucker and that closed door opened again, if only a small amount. There is so much we don’t know and probably won’t ever get the full picture. I don’t see the Tigers offering anything that would be a death knell. 🙄 Quote

But that could be it as well. I just get fed up with the sentiment that somehow the Tigers are being lazy or whatever. 2 Quote

If this were a smart negotiation team they would keep it all hushed until the 60 day IL date comes up. However, apparently this is causing him significant reputation damage with multiple fanbases. He's not pulling a Lebron James here. Quote

It explains a lot if that's it. However, just because you have a puzzle piece doesn't mean it fits YOUR puzzle. Quote
Tigermojo Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Detroit can place someone on the 60 day IL tomorrow. 1 Quote

We'll never know what they offered him unless they sign him, but if the speculation that they have offered a 6-year contract for 25-30 million annually is true, I think that would be a very reasonable offer. I would not expect them to go beyond that. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 (edited) At this point best offers are on the table - I imagine the teams are at the point of "If you can get a better offer, take it, goodbye and good luck" but Bregman still thinks he can wring out something more so 'game of chicken' as someone described it, is probably the apt description. I'd say that the one piece of real evidence that isn't getting much play is the mode of the Flaherty signing. Note that what the Tigers put on the table to Jack was a 'fall-back' offer; the deal to pick up when negotiations with other teams on a long term deal fell through. Taking that precedent as a guide, you might guess that if they are 'in' on Bregman it's along the same lines - they've made a fair but short term offer. But that's just one more guess. Hongbit Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I believe this is all Boras and Alex has given him full authority to run the negotiations. The interesting part is that Boras has been doing this longer than most of the active GM’s have been alive. A new generation has new ways of doing things and at some point Boras is going to have to adapt to them or get left behind. He doesn’t seem like the adapting type. This could end up horribly wrong and be the beginning of the end of Boras. Or he could do what he always does and get just one GM to cave and give him what he wants. Quote

By doing so, is he showing the veteran leadership skills that Tiger fans generally expect someone of his stature to bring to a team? YMMV. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Boras was unable to get Correa a long term deal in 2022, but that was more about his health than his age, so getting one for Bregman may be even lower probability. Just a fun note. It's the 'Boras Corporation', not the 'Boras Agency.' At least Boras is open about his priorities! Quote

IDK, are new GM's a reality for Boras to adjust to or is Boras a reality new GM's have to learn to accept? Immovable object meets irresistible force! Quote
