Maybe it was just too much and he needed down time from it all. Most of us felt that last year's problems were more mental than anything and maybe that's true. I guess we'll see, right? But I have a feeling that his next MLB game will not be in a Tigers uniform. 1 Quote
1776 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 "That's not me," he said. "That's not the way I roll. I'm pretty old-school in the fact that, you know, 'That felt good. The ball flight looked good. That must've worked.'" I can’t believe, all things considered, that he literally said this out loud! What is this guy thinking, or not!!! Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Okay. Do any of you feel that Bregman is dragging this out just to keep his name in the news? The fact that he hasn't decided yet doesn't seem genuine to me. Does he really need that much for his ego? Is it that fragile? And when I hear Baez' health is good, I was thinking Joan Baez. Regarding Javy? I don't know. He is so far removed from his peak that I just have no faith that he's going to turn anything around. Nate Colbert 2.0 Quote

Nate Colbert 2.0 I think Boras and Bregman don’t have the offer they had hoped for, (and are likely worse than what Houston had originally offered) and now they are scrambling. Quote

His results metrics look like they could be bad luck, which is supported by the fact that his WAR of 0.1 was way better than his RA9-WAR of -0.9. I get what they see in him. I’m kind of optimistic. Nate Colbert 2.0 I watch the Baez steal of first base, when he played for the Cubbies, all the time. It's one of my favorite non-Tiger baseball videos. And every time I watch it, I laugh. There were 2 outs...lol Quote

Getting anything out of him this season would be an unanticipated bonus. No, it wouldn't. If he gets 150 at bats and hits a HR, is getting that HR a bonus? I don't wish injury on anyone but it wouldn't bother me if he had to hang them up. The question is; will the Tigers show some balls and pay him to go away? Or are fans going to have to watch him swing wildly at sliders all season? Quote
romad1 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 who dat? https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/02/tigers-sign-john-brebbia.html Quote

ICroupier Posted February 13 Posted February 13 So much going on in last 3 pages of this thread: -- Shocker re: Cobb. I thought for sure he was in line for 32 starts and 200+ innings. I actually am happy about it because my preference would be for Mize and Jobe to be in the rotation. Jobe because he's ready and Mize because he needs 1 more chance before we move on completely -- Twitter is an absolute cesspool. I deactivated my account a few months ago and am very happy with that decision. Social media is like organized religion - has done more harm than good. And anything newsworthy that's posted there on any topic that interests me, I find out second hand anyway. So I still get the updates without directly exposing myself to the absolute worst of humanity -- Tork can't be gone soon enough as far as I'm concerned. Even if he didn't believe in advanced analytics (which is dumb, but let's forget it), you'd think someone who is on thin ice and running out of lives would be willing to do whatever his team thinks is best to improve his chance of sticking. That is, of course, unless he doesn't want to stick. At this point I'm convinced he clearly wants out and is trying to force their hand -- Brebbia is a solid signing. Not going to be a final piece or anything, but he'll be a contributor 4 Quote

He gives up a ton of home runs, but maybe not as many pitching in Comerica. I don't know if he's better than their 8 best relievers, but they need depth. He's another decent arm. Quote

Well, with the mighty Breggie coming to the Tigers, I am sure the home run rate for opposing teams will drop to near-zero. I mean, he's just so amazing. Getting him for anything less than $300 million is thievery - because he's so incredibly good. In fact, I think the baseball writers should scrap the 5 year rule for the Hall Of Fame and just go ahead and put him in while he's still playing. Edited February 13 by Motor City Sonics Quote

IdahoBert Posted February 13 Posted February 13 So Torkelson not only does nothing the team asked him to do off-season, but he essentially says it’s BS. Maybe it’s just his way of saying he’s given up, that everything they’re asking him to do is over his head and beyond his ability to comprehend. Quote

I think the old regime would be so hung up on the sunk cost of his draft position, et. al., that they would stick it out stubbornly. This group are going to be content to turn the Mannings and Torks into cautionary tales for their other draft picks. Quote
