Fangraphs is out with its Top 100 prospects list which predictably differ substantially from Pipeline's.

All of a sudden, here comes Troy Melton onto the national prospect scene. FG is projecting a 2025 debut for the kid. he was a fourth round draft pick and the Harris brain trust engineered some changes to his delivery that has raised his stock some.

Doesn't look like FG has room for Rainer on their list but he's early yet and there's time.

Longenhagen said in his chat that the reason Rainer and a couple others from this past draft didn't make it is cause they didn't play any pro ball this year.

With the Melton inclusion for FG I believe that now makes 9 different Tigers on atleast one of the big outlets top 100. The 7 you have listed plus Jace Jung and Jaden Hamm.

When did Keith Law join Fangraphs?

Seeing what Cody Stavenhagen in The Athletic pointed out is giving me more respect for the Torres signing:

"For reference, let’s compare his FanGraphs’ ZiPS projection with another notable infielder:

Gleyber Torres: .260/.335/.402, 17 HR, 3.0 fWAR

Alex Bregman: .252/.333/.430, 22 HR, 3.9 fWAR"

Offensively you are looking at very similar players.  Is Bregman's defense worth an additional $25 million?  Plus Torres might bring another prospect to the Tigers eventually.

Was Mr. 4D Chess already looking ahead to next offseason’s free agent class, while largely avoiding any bad contracts this offseason?:

Not sensing that Alex Bregman will be a place where Scott Harris wants to spend time.   But, you never know.

The trick will be getting any of the top right-handed sluggers to want to spend time in Detroit.

I wonder whether there is serious, perhaps spirited, discussion about reconfiguring Comerica to make it friendly to RHH?

Meaning the Fangraphs rankings are garbage? Fangraphs hates Detroit? Not sure of the direction of the joke.

The Keith Laws hates the Tigers thing is so lame.  He used to criticize the Tigers farm system because it sucked.  Now, he says good things about it it because it's good.

Gotta think Justin Turner signing with the Cubs may increase the chance of Mr. Workman's return.

Not if Mrs. Workman has a say.  She was pretty vocal in the press about how her hubby was treated.

She doesn't. The other 28 teams would get a chance to claim him before he is returned.

This Red Sox thing is getting ugly.  LOL.

Get Boston to pick up most of his salary and we could trade a spare 2nd for Bregman.  Somebody from A ball? 😅😅

I am getting tired of hearing and reading media outlets and you tube people (some actually have some credibility) saying the Tigers "failed" to sign Alex Bregman.       No they didn't.  He was never coming here.  The Tigers were used as leverage.   Offering a 31 year old (who may be in decline) 6 years and $171 million is not a failure.  It's a better-than-fair offer and it's proof he never was coming here, since he seemed to be demanding at least 6 years.     You could also make the argument the Tigers failed to sign Juan Soto because he was never coming here either.

The big question is what will we get out of Gleyber Torres and Alex Cobb.       If Torres can hit a lot of line drives to the power alleys at Comerica then it's a win.    I know he's hit as many as 38 Home Runs,  but that was 6 years ago.   He seems to average 25 Home Runs.   Switch Yankee Stadium and Comerica Park and that 25 might be closer to about 19 or 20.    I think Torres may start a lot of games as a DH.       Cobb?   I feel like he was the insurance piece in case they couldn't sign Jack or another better starting pitcher.   Don't even know what Cobb will be.   I hope he's not Kenta 2.0.

I'll give the Tigers a C.   It was a D until Jack Flaherty came back.     The Tigers didn't do anything to make themselves worse, but we don't know if they'll be much better.   I feel like a good bat (other than Torres) would have been nice.   I also have to keep remember that we're not in the olden times and that the league average is .243, meaning Torres was almost 20 points higher than average last year.   I'd like to see that OBP get a little north of .330.   Line drives, baby, line drives.

I don't think they'll be any better than last year, but the top 4 in this division in 2025 might finish within 5 games of each other, so going 86-76 again could win the division or place you 4th.   Really, the Guardians, Royals and Twins did about the same as the Tigers this offseason.   I think the White Sox might be the most improved team, they might only lose 105 this year.

We did better than the Mariners and Orioles.

Actually, we should be grading LAST year's offseason since we have a year of data to look at.   But last year's offseason was pretty "meh".    Flaherty was an A.   Chafin was a B- and Canha, Kenta and Urshela were flops.   So, it was another C.    But they made the playoffs.

They didn't "fail".  It sounds like they made a good offer and he signed elsewhere.  I do not believe it was true that the Tigers had no chance to sign him.  I think if they went high enough like 7 years, he would have signed with them.  But Harris had his limit and wouldn't go any higher.  There is nothing wrong with that.  If Bregman has a good year, I think he'll opt out and end up making more total money than the Tigers or Astros offered.

Workman was taken in the rule 5 by cubs from us. IF he doesn't make the cubs roster he is returned. That is what Edman was referencing. Not the DFA situation

I think he would depending on what happens with his team this year.  I don't think GMs have the same emotional response to a player choosing another team that fans do.  I don't think he believed that he was being used.  If he did, he would have dropped out pretty quickly.
