Tigermojo Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Chafin back on minor league deal and non roster invite. That's crazy good value right there. Quote

With the 3 batter minimum, lefty specialists are not in as hi of a demand as they once were. Still, hard to believe no team wanted to give him a contract. I agree, nice signing Quote

I agree, nice signing Chafin also hasn't been that good outside of Detroit over the last few years: 2022 DET - 2.83 ERA, 3.06 FIP 2023 ARI/MIL - 4.73 ERA, 4.01 FIP 2024 DET - 3.16 ERA, 2.54 FIP 2024 TEX - 4.19 ERA, 5.44 FIP Detroit is probably the best place where he can be successful. Probably because the Fetter team are one of the few that will keep eyes on him and fix where he goes wrong. The other teams might have been like, hey, man, you’re making good money here, you don’t need Remedial Pitching 101. Quote
Tenacious D Posted February 25 Posted February 25 I know how the injuries piled up last season, but does make you wonder if a trade is coming at some point with all of the viable starter and reliever options we have this spring, especially if any of the non-roster guys show. Quote
Tigermojo Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Thomas Szapucki lefty reliever signs a minor league deal. He's been injured the past two years. Quote
Arlington Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I am predicting here and now that Maeda pitches reasonably well this spring, and because of that Detroit is able to trade him to a team desperate for starters. At $10 million, he could be a bargain and some team short of experienced arms might just take a flyer. He won't start here and he isn't that much use in the pen. We will get a couple Fetter specials in return. Quote

He can get 3b, or any bat or an addition elsewhere (flamethrower?) if they need it; he certainly will have the prospects. Yes, understood and true. However, I have asked several times - 'Does Harris have the ability/the knack, to acquire MLB talent'? We know he can trade veterans for prospects which he has helped the system with several times. Soon we may find out more about the other way around, prospects for MLB talent to help win in the 'now'. Quote
Tigeraholic1 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I like it. Less Dirks on the radio is the only thing I will miss. Quote

roarintiger1 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 How is everyone watching the Tigers this season? Are they still on Bally? Quote

IdahoBert Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I really really enjoyed Andy Dirks. This is disappointing. Quote
oblong Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I assume that in terms of pecking order TV is higher than radio when it comes to analytical work so it can be looked at as a promotion and acknowledgement that he's good at it. The first time i heard him I assumed it was someone from another market filling in. He was that good. Like he had been doing it for a long time and he mixes in good analysis as a former player without getting too technical. You could tell he was a thinker and he can express it. Quote

I am sure some fans dislike him as would be with anyone. To me he gave good insights with players, it seemed like he got to know many of them. I liked his card collecting references, food reports, etc. as well. Maybe he is taking on a bigger role with the Pistons? Seems like he should of been with the Tigers in some respect. Just IMHO. I am beginnin to warm to the idea of Starling Marte, he might do well at this park. Decent RHB, good D & speed even at his age. However, that would mean Vierling would be more at 3B and it seems he best serves the team in the OF. It would give the team more depth, another RHB and Jung more time to develop at AAA. I have not heard anything about him in connection to the Tigers, but have heard rumors about the NYM maybe looking to move him. Quote
