It’ll be interesting to see if the Giants pursue him. He and Jung Hoo Lee are reported to be best friends. The Giants have a new front office and are in search of middle infield help in a big way. I'd be more for Bregman if he was the last piece of the puzzle to put us over the top in October. But we have a bunch of other holes to plug, so I think I'd be surprised if we went all in on him.

There's a lot going on with Baez. Perhaps his back did affect his ability to protect the outside of the plate. Maybe he had to commit earlier. This is true but I will say that 07 team was really really good but faltered down the stretch after the Bonderman injury along with losing some key games to Cleveland. The 09 team of course made it to game 163 and even the 2010 team was right there at the All Star Break but again ran into a bunch of injuries. I think you might have something with the earlier commit.

oblong
Worth noting that this years team wouldn’t have made the playoffs in the 06 format. But if you put the current format and in place back then they make the playoffs in 07 and 09.
SoCalTiger
Trading for Montgomery and Suarez from Arizona (Made& Manning) and signing Randall Grichuk and say Pivetta (SP) + a solid reliever are realistic gets allowing us to keep our youngsters for more visibility on their potential. Not sexy but realistic.
AlaskanTigersFan
So I'm just gonna say it. I think we were lucky as all get out this year to go as far as we did. If we run back this team with 80% of the same players, I think we miss the playoffs next year..... Having said that, I really hope we improve, especially on the pitching side. Buehler and Flaherty are my top 2 and my dream would be Corbin Burnes. I'm still amazed the Orioles didn't swing for Skubal and after they got bounced, I expect them to LOAD up on pitching this off season via trade (or else I think their GM will get canned if they don't perform well through the season, or if they get bounced in the first round of playoffs again next year). If there's a way to pluck one of their top 5 guys, we need to explore that. Even if that means shipping Vest, Montero or Foley (or literally anyone on our staff not named Skubal)..... Although in all honesty, I'd still be open to moving Skubal for the right price (don't worry will never happen) but I think this year just earned him a 10 year contract from the Tigers...... But seriously though, we need to do this right. Our team has a bunch of B level players and I hope this season wasn't a mirage but I fear it could have been. (I really hope I'm wrong). HeyAbbott
I think the biggest problem we are facing this off-season is the general sense of so many we have one big crapshoot for the World Series and then we will have spent our wad. An average of 1.5 WAR from each member of a 26 man active roster and your looking at an 87 win season. It would also be easy to make a major mistake this off-season. Handled properly, I can see 4 or more years of the possibility of a WS win. I am not sold on Bregman. I am sold on the need for more pitching and a right handed outfielder. I still would advise caution.

I agree 100% that we had a ton of luck and "running it back" will not be good enough next year. While I'd love Buehler, there's no chance the Dodgers let him walk. I can't believe the Mets extended a $21.5M QO to Severino. The market for SP is going to be crazy. We're definitely out ok the top tier guys (Burnes, Snell), and now I'm thinking we won't be in on the second tier either (Flaherty, Fried, Buehler). OTOH, they were a better team in the second half with Maeda dropped from the rotation, Meadow and Torkelson back, Sweeney having replaced Javy's black hole in the lineup and Keith having come out of his initial slump. Some of that is real, some is certainly still questionable - esp Sweeney and Tork, so HA is still spot on they can't stand still. Even if Torkelson is better next season that still is not enough offense from the left side of the plate so a RH hitter is a must. We'd all love a signing like bringing Flaherty back, but with so many arms in the system I fear they may not make a major starting pitching move. Do expect to see at least one reliever signed or traded for. but that's sort of standard for any year.
Tigermojo
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/11/tigers-decline-option-on-casey-mize-retain-club-control-via-arbitration.html No big surprises. Mize option is declined for $3.1 million but he is still controlled with arbitration. MLBTR estimates $2 million. Madris, Vilade and Sammons ourighted off the 40 man roster and become minor league free agents. Not in the article but Jake Rogers did not get the gold glove for catcher. I don't think the 86 wins was a mirage. The last two months most definitely was. Before the trade deadline the Tigers were hampered by a few injuries and young player growing pains that depressed the W-L record. If the Tigers had had KC health all season long I suspect they would have finished close to 86 wins even without the super heater in the closing months. I definitely want them to bolster the roster, but if they only tinker with it I wouldn't be surprised if they finish around 85 wins again.
