All of those makes some sense depending on which way Harris goes.

Ha-Seong Kim: One year, $12MM. I'd be all in on this contract. I'd consider another season or higher dollar amount to get it done, even though he might miss a bit of the early season. 30. Danny Jansen: Two years, $20MM. The Tigers have been fairly fortunate with catcher health recently. This pushes Dingler back to Toledo. but only until one of Jansen/Rogers gets hurt. I was all in on the signing last year but I’d prefer moving on from him at this point.

Agree that a shorter deal would be attractive—will be interesting to see what his market is. He showed some cracks in the playoffs.

They pitch well, then we trade them (Mike Fiers, Mike Lorenzen, Jack Flaherty) and speculate we can get them back in Free Agency - but never do. I wouldn't count on Flaherty. He'll want max dollars and more years than the Tigers would want to give - this might be his one shot to get a big contract.

There should be ample room to add annual cost for a few years. But it needs to be done wisely. Baez is a case in point. I didn't want to go past 4 years on him, preferably with the 4th as an earned season, but willing to go 4 guaranteed with a 5th based on performance. In fairness, I'm not sure anyone saw him breaking down this severely. But here we are, heading into year 4 of 6 guaranteed years. Its not a contract that cannot be dumped, but it just strips away opportunity elsewhere.

Motor City Sonics
One guy I can see the Tigers bringing back is Carson Kelly. And please, just end the Baez thing. It's not his back or hip or anything else that causes him to swing at everything. That's a mental thing. He just lost it, that's all. It happens. A bit cursed with a guy's career ending from vertigo and another's complete game falling off a cliff, but let's be rid of all of it now. Motor City Sonics
Seeing Top 50 Free Agent predictions of people signing with the White Sox, A's and Rays. Why would a north-of-30 Free Agent want to go to the White Sox. Horrible team. Owner either going to sell or possibly move them. The A's will be playing at a minor league stadium for the next 3 years and is the Vegas thing even confirmed yet? And where the hell are the Rays going to play? A minor league stadium in Tampa or Orlando, or will the share the stadium with the Marlins in Miami. They're surely not sinking 9 figures into fixing a stadium they are leaving in 3 years, are they? Well, I remember Nick Esasky - when he got Vertigo and he tried for a few years, but just couldn't get right. He might have been a year or two older than Austin. I have not heard a thing about Austin. I think he's just done. That's so scary - how something like that can just derail you in the prime of your life. It's like having an Aneurysm. It can happen anytime anyplace. Edited November 7 by Motor City Sonics

Its weird because the fine-tuning of the skillset to hit a MLB pitcher's arsenal isn't something you can just flick a switch do again. With vertigo, yeah...that's no good. Soto is a top hitter, but not a very good defender, and he is a sub par athlete who probably won’t age well. Probably be a dh soon, players of his skill set tend to lose bat speed as they age. Great player, but not without concerns.

papalawrence
A wrinkle on Soto - how certain is it that he is 25? Recently a minor league player from Dominican Republic made agreement at 14. Turns out he was 19. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/dominican-baseball-player-with-verbal-agreement-with-padres-was-19-not-14-per-report/ Soto is a great player. But maybe he didn't start at 19? Signing him to a 15 yr deal carries so much risk. I'll bet Boras is starting at 15/700 Edited November 7 by papalawrence

Motor City Sonics
Who I would like them to sign? Sean Manaea - Plus lefty To go with Skubal-Olson-Mize Jack Flaherty - He liked it here, we helped get him a ring. He'll be too expensive Danny Jensen - I feel like more depth is needed at Catcher. HaSeong Kim - Solid defensive player, has versatility too, right handed counter to Sweeney/Keith. Level player Pete Alonso - Big Boomer, but I don't think the big boomers want to come to THIS ballpark. The 40 HRs at other ballparks is probably 32 here and that probably means NO. Reality feels more like...... Jose Quintana - Desperate need for a lefty starter on a short term deal Nick Pivetta - Just feels like a Tigers guy. A fine #4 or #5 Carson Kelly - They know he fits the team Paul Goldschmidt - Tork Mentor/Tork Insurance, mostly at DH. But he steeply declined last year.
