Reality feels more like......

Jose Quintana  - Desperate need for a lefty starter on a short term deal

Nick Pivetta  - Just feels like a Tigers guy.  A fine #4 or #5

Carson Kelly   - They know he fits the team

Paul Goldschmidt - Tork Mentor/Tork Insurance, mostly at DH.  But he steeply declined last year.

That list stinks like feet.

Look at the last few offseasons.  We always end up disappointed.   I don't think that'll change because of the playoff run.   We'll sign more guys than before, but it's all mid-level, short-term and prove it deals.   Hope they prove me wrong, but Chris is not like his father.

Am I the only one that has reservations about bringing Flaherty back? I was all in on the signing last year but I’d prefer moving on from him at this point.

You are not.

Flaherty’s going to get at least four years. I mean, he’s a good pick up for a rich team with money to burn that a great pitching science staff and can see taking a chance on him being healthy and consistent enough be to a solid 2/3. But he is definitely not the ace of a staff that plays into November. The Yankees didn’t want him even for a stretch run because of history concerns.

As for us, I don’t know whether our roster is mature enough to warrant paying something like 4/80+ to Jack Flaherty. Fans don’t want to hear this, but the rebuild is still not finished, although I do think we have crossed the midway point of the rebuild. We can still win while finishing up the rebuild, but I also think last season might have been this version’s 2006.

Seeing Top 50 Free Agent predictions of people signing with the White Sox, A's and Rays.

Why would a north-of-30 Free Agent want to go to the White Sox.  Horrible team.  Owner either going to sell or possibly move them.

The A's will be playing at a minor league stadium for the next 3 years and is the Vegas thing even confirmed yet?

And where the hell are the Rays going to play?   A minor league stadium in Tampa or Orlando, or will the share the stadium with the Marlins in Miami.    They're surely not sinking 9 figures into fixing a stadium they are leaving in 3 years, are they?

I don’t think any top free agent would go to the hate Sox, but they may pick up someone whose back is against the career wall as a possible flip piece.

Remember, even signing with the White Sox for a guaranteed deal is preferable to going to Asia or Mexico.

Soto is a top hitter, but not a very good defender, and he is a sub par athlete who probably won’t age well. Probably be a dh soon, players of his skill set tend to lose bat speed as they age. Great player, but not without concerns.

It's true he's a poor defender now, but he will still be in the outfield for at least another four years, if not more. They may try to figure out a way to move him to first.

A wrinkle on Soto - how certain is it that he is 25? Recently a minor league player from Dominican Republic made agreement at 14. Turns out he was 19.

Soto is a great player. But maybe he didn't start at 19? Signing him to a 15 yr deal carries so much risk. I'll bet Boras is starting at 15/700

We will know exactly how old Soto is when he comes for his pension.

And he reportedly rejected a 15-year contract from the Yankees.  Odds are we wouldn't like the last 7 or so years of whatever contract he gets.

I believe you mean the Nationals? Had the Yankees offered 15 years to Soto, wouldn't that be seismic news?

Probably.  Regardless, as much as I want the Tigers to boost their offense, I wouldn't suggest that they get involved in anything like that.

Soto is going to the Mets, Dodgers or Yankees.     My guess is Mets.    Money is no object for the Mets.

Boras and Soto are flying out to meet with Steve Cohen next week. The drama heightens….

might as well be.   I lost track of him.

At one point there was a report that Parker still talks to him everyday. I hope that's true.

"I developed a condition that prevents me from playing baseball but allows me an otherwise fairly normal life"

is a lot better than

"I developed a condition that continues to get worse and will destroy my normal life."

I don't know that anyone has ever said which he's dealing with, which is their right of course......
