I do not see the Tigers spending $20-$30 million on any one player.  That is not their style.  No Bregman..  No Santander.  No Walker.  However, their are still some options out there.

they have Skubal - the best pitcher in baseball - for 2 more years.

huge advantage to be able to pitch him twice in a short series.

I'm a little fuzzy on what "preferred" timeline means?

I don't know that it's a question of style as much as it's a question of timing. Is this the right time to spend $30 million on a player? Are we at the point where the roster as currently constructed can be expected to get into the playoffs, and a $30 million guy is what we need to go deep into October?

Yes, but it shouldn’t be Bregman.  I’d prioritize Soto, Hernandez and Santander.

If I'm Skubal, I might want to wait until AFTER November 20th to be in serious contract negotiations.   But maybe that's just me.   Might be some extra bucks in that hardware coming his way.       I don't expect Skubal to be a Tiger going into the 2027 season.

We already had Gregory Soto once and it didn't work out for us. I don't know which outfielder we would dump to lock up Santander—I assume you mean Carpenter, but I don't think Santander is any more of an advantage for us in right field, and I don't think we're in the market for a minus right fielder to replace another one for big bucks simply because he's on the other side of the plate. Teoscar, same thing, plus he had a full season of 108 OPS+ just a year ago, so I don't know that he's necessarily guaranteed to be much better than that at ages 32+.

I like the idea of Christian Walker. Plus defender, 20-plus-homer threat from the right side in Comerica, already playing the position his age requires anyway, and we should be able to get him relatively cheap, meaning, no more than three years guaranteed.

Unless the team regresses badly, I expect they will sign Skubal to a massive deal before 2027.  The money is in the budget after the Javy contract goes away.  Honestly, they could double their current payroll right now and still make a nice profit. People will come and support a good team.

I don't know, Skubal has been great so far, do we really expect him to keep it up until 2034 or so? Or even into the 2030s? I'm not sure I would.

I like this too but with Tork in the fold and Walker requiring the Tigers to sacrifice a draft pick (or perhaps two?  I'm not sure) because of the QO, I have a hard time thinking it will happen.  I think they're more likely to bring in somebody who can play 1B on the type of contract that they can eat during the year if Tork finds himself

He probably won’t be any good by then but if they can win a Workd Series or two before it will have been worth it ten times over.

You might be right on the QO, but I am not at all certain having Tork on the team as of today is all that much of a barrier. Your solution might be the one they go with.

You're probably right, but I still think it should go to Hinch, who actually had to manage a team that cycled rookies through 50% of the lineup because the players and pitchers they were depending on in April to help us win this year were either hurt, terrible, or traded.

I don't think we are shopping for steak just yet. More like Hamburger as in Jake Burger 3B/1B currently  in Miami. Not sure if I read it here or on X but I guess it makes sense. Can kind of play third and is insurance for Tork. If not him that level I'm guessing. Then maybe Montass or Buehler level pitcher. Tork, Jung etc still in the mix it seems. But with Harris it's all MI5 secrecy.

Well, Burger might have the RHH power and fielding gloves to match with the needs, but control the strike zone he does not.

That is such a let down.   There is so much better out there.      They are not going to repeat the insane thing that happened this season.  Spend a little, man.   $80 million payroll and $25 million is in one guy.     Come on, man.    Give us something good here.  Give us something exciting for a change.      Tigers are going to bland this together like Yzerman is doing with the Wings.
