So I guess Skubal winning the Cy Young isn’t a big deal to much of anyone.  This is a tough audience. So, where do we meet to throw snowballs at children? 😉

He's not dating Livvy Dunne.

It wasn't dramatic.  He had it locked up in mid-September.    If anything it only means he'll cost more and it's very likely that we're only getting one more season with Skubal in Detroit.     Welcome to the Tampa Bay Rays of the North.   Soon as we fall in love with a player, they're going bye bye.      There is a difference.  Nobody gives a **** about baseball in Tampa, and you can get away with pissing of your meager fanbase.   Can't do that here so much.   We're going to have to learn that the hard way.

Has anyone done anything significant except submit 40 man transactions and tend qualifying offers?

Are we witnessing the modern day collusion. This is the second offseason in a row the market has been crickets the first month.

It’s called Scot Boras who still thinks current GMs don’t have the analytics he has. He was ahead of that but no longer and the price he wants are stupid.

Why not just keep him and enjoy two seasons at well below market value in his prime, while he plays for his next contract.

This is more on the agents than the owners.   They are going to play all bidders against each other as long as they can (within reason).  Seems like once we get into mid January, all that will be left are the guys that feel they are getting lowballed.   That's probably when the Tigers will step in more.

I'm thinking along the lines of

Walker Buehler
Jose Quintana
Jose Igelsias
Donovan Solano or Paul Goldschmidt

A bunch of one-year prove it deals.

That’s a perfectly good option if we’re in playoff position. If not then have to trade.

Quatraro should’ve won IMO.  I thought the Royals were gonna be a distant 4th in the central

They have what is arguably a Hall of fame catcher and what is already one of the greatest shortstops in history, barring catastrophic injury, and they loaded up in the offseason specifically to make a run at the playoffs. They didn't exactly come out of nowhere.

Spending 25-30 million a year on Bregman

Bregman's slash line in 2024   .260/.315/.848   26 HR

Matt Vierling   .257/.312/.735  16 HR

If Bregman played at Comerica 81 games,  that 26 HR might be 21   If Vierling played at Houston it might be 19 or 20

Bregman now is a better player, but he's proably starting his decline,  Is Bregman's production worth 25 million or more a season compared to Matt Vierling, who is slightly less productive and after arbitration will probably get something like 1.6 million.   Plus I see Vierling as a guy who could still improve a bit.

I'm just not sold on this version of Alex Bregman.

That OBP going from .363 to .315 in one season is very alarming.    They might just be better off signing an OF or 1B and pairing Vierling and Jung at 3b

not sure why the Phillies might move Bohm or what DD is looking for, but he's under team control for 2 years; seems like a guy who could really help as a RH bat. If Tork fails, could try him at 1b, moving Vierling back to 3b. Harris and DD have made 2 trades already.

Kinda worries me why Philly would want to move on from somebody like Brohm, makes me think their metrics or scouts see something there that leads them to believe this past year is gonna be an anomaly and they should sell high.

Bregman's OPS drop in 2024 was totally due to a big drop in BB% associated with an increase in swing rate.  His other numbers including k%, ISO and hard hit% remained stable.  The question which should be asked is why was he swinging so much in 2024? That seems like something that can be fixed

Bregman had elite plate disclipline skills from 2018-2023 resulting in the best BB/K rate in the majors during that period.  He had more walks than strikeouts four times.  He can field too.  He seems like exactly the kind of player Harris and Hinch are talking about all the time.

I do understand people's concerns about age and contract length.

Bohm had one really good half season offensively and doesn't offer much defensively.  He's the kind of guy where if you have him you really try to figure out how to repeat his 2024 first half in the future, but I wouldn't give up alot to get him.

This is a google trend chart. Any idea what it is. Hint: if you are on baseball bluesky you may have seen something related to this lately.

RE: Bregman, here's his statcast page, nothing jumps out in terms of getting unlucky. His expected numbers based on contact are a little higher than his actual numbers but nothing crazy. Also of note as somebody else brought up in this thread, if you look at his expected HR numbers by park he definitely would be hit hard by going to Comerica.

Last year he hit 26 homers but if he played all his games in Comerica that number would drop to 21. Also the hit would be even worse in Cleveland with 18 and KC with 20. OTOH he would profile well in Chicago where the number would be 32 and also in MInnesota with 29.
