gehringer_2 Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Colt is probably a better 2B than Torres at this point so it will be interesting to see what Hinch does with Gleyber. Colt improved a lot in the course of the season. If you look at his errors for instance, he had 12 for the season but only 3 came after July 1 and by the end of the season his DP turns were 1st rate. Torres has had a high error rate everywhere he plays, and considering how hard it it to get an error in today's game, that's not a good thing. Quote
RatkoVarda Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 bat: great approach, crushes LH pitching money: great baserunning: not great but can be fixed defense: ugh risk: little not a perfect fit, but they are better today than they were yesterday 2 Quote
gehringer_2 Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 converting him to RH OF would be an interesting try. Quote
Tigermojo Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 If Torres bounces back they could give him a qualifying offer and get a draft pick next year instead of flipping him at the deadline. 2 Quote

No need to sign stupid Bregman Especially for what he is asking for. I approve Torres at 1/$15MM over Bregman at his current ask. I also think the Org internally knows how Keith's shoulder is doing currently and is comfortable moving him to 3B, with Vierling getting some time there. Lefty-Righty as need. And that moves Jung back to 2B, where he was a better player. So Torres is a stopgap until Jung is ready... and tehy may both be on the team at some point which is, again... Righty-Lefty, as needed. Still need some longer-term balance on the Right side. Which brings us to... Tork will have to prove he can be better than he's shown. At the plate and in the field. Or he will be broomed out... I would say he needs to prove to the team he has some staying power in Detroit by the trade deadline. Or else... 1 Quote
1984Echoes Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 (edited) Maybe Torres in 2025 turns into Jung & Hao-Yu Lee in 2026...? Edited December 27, 2024 by 1984Echoes Quote

gehringer_2 Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 I’m still waiting for the Tigers to move a LH bat. Quote
Nate7474 Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 I’m going to go on record saying I don’t really see the fit here at first glance. I like the player though so depending on how it works out could be a big benefit offensively. I saw Keith improve a ton at second and felt comfortable with him there long term and think we take a step back defensively at 2B. Hinch loves to platoon and if Keith takes to first base and can play some third as well then thats great but I think that’s taking a huge leap of faith. Quote
Hongbit Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 This is another Harris flyer on a guy that had below career average numbers last year in the hopes he rebounds. He’s hit on a few of these in the past. 1 Quote

Tigermojo Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Bailey Horn DFA for Torres. He was claimed off waivers from Boston last month. Quote
Graterol Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Harris says Colt to 1B. So lineup should be something like: Greene/Meadows/Vierling/Carpenter Jung/Sweeney/Torres/Keith Dingler/Rogers 3 of Perez/Malloy/Ibanez/Baez/Tork You need someone else that can play SS, so Baez probably makes the roster today. Ibanez/Tork/Malloy to be the other side of DH platoon. Perez would be more interesting off bench if he could play IF. A trade seems likely. Quote

1776 Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Harris and Hinch stressed culture and character considerations when adding players to the organization. Torres doesn’t impress me here. Apparently he refused to play 3rd base with the Yankees and was benched on an occasion or two for lack of hustle. I’m hoping that he will take advantage of the chance to redeem himself across several performance metrics and impress with his attitude. 1 Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Tork is not out. Keith and Tork will probably swap between First Base and DH, most of the time. Quote

monkeytargets39 Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Hard to see where Tork fits in at all going forward. I can’t imagine Keith gets platooned much. Maybe Tork is the DH platoon with Carpenter, but I’d almost rather have Malloy or Ibanez be that. Wonder if Harris can move him on the market for anything worthwhile. Quote
Edman85 Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 (edited) Tork to Toledo and if he crushes it, he works his way back and you find a spot. If he flails, you let him do his thing in Toledo until he becomes not worth the roster spot or money or runs out of options. Edited December 27, 2024 by Edman85 Quote

Not really worried about what this means for Tork. He's a severely flawed player who will have the opportunity to show improvement either as a part-time player or in AAA. if he improves, it will give the team flexibility in 2026 after Torres' contract ends. If he doesn't, they can finally cut the cord definitively. My guess is it will be the latter. Quote
Tenacious D Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 The beauty of a one-year contract is that we don’t have to sweat beyond the 2025 season. And I hope a trade or two are coming. Would like to see how Harris approaches this—we’ve not seen him make any deals of significance. Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Wouldn’t shock me if McGonigle cracks the roster in 26 either. 1 Quote
