if we sign Bregman what is the starting lineup for next year opening day?

They will probably have a different line-up every day, but the most frequent starters would likely be:

Rogers C

Keith 1B

Torres 2B

Sweeney SS

Bregman 3B

Greene LF

Meadows CF

Vierling RF

Carpenter DH

No arguments with likelihood you assigned but I would want to see Perez in the OF more.

Parker Meadows unfortunately will likely injure himself with his gangbusters style of play a couple times so it will be moot.

Perez might be odd man out, if this is the bench:

Dingler

McKinstry

Baez

Vierling

Ibanez

Actually, Ibanez might find himself on the outs with Torres and Bregman’s RH bats at 2B and 3B

Bregman?   Got the cart before the horse?   Or have I missed this official signing news?

There's enough smoke to think they may be in the pole position, but yeah, probably shouldn't pencil him in just yet

It was hypothetical, based on Bregman being signed.

Instead of who?

Vierling but he's got to get ABs too.  Its a good problem to have if we aren't restricted to giving ABs to former #1 draft picks who can't generate competent ABs.   I wonder if Torkelson is gonna end up in Arizona as part of a trade for a starter.

Torres had a playoff surge as leadoff hitter so that might continue, or 2nd?

Meadows/Torres/Greene/Bregman/Carpenter/Vierling/Keith/Sweeney/Rogers

Dingler/McKinstry/Perez/ + one open rotating spot (Baez, Tork, Jung, Ibanez?)

I hope Rosenthal is correct.

If they don't spend to get Bregman, I hope it's because they don't want him and not because they don't want to spend.

Mets rumors are floating 3B Brett Baty for Torkelson trade... they can move some guys around and cover 3B they think better than Baty...

Baty's also a former 1st rounder with good power, decent defense but low BA... showed better numbers in AAA (both power and BA) but hasn't "found it" yet in MLB...

Tork for Baty?

Yes? No?

Not if the idea is to get less left-handed. He did have some decent MiLB contact numbers though - better than Torkelson's ever were.

I'm waiting for some sense to emerge from this off-season, so far I don't see it. Keith looks like he could turn into a good OBP hitter, but he's not shown any power yet, so moving him to 1st seems like a misfit - or at least premature. I'm pretty luke-warm about Torres unless he was willing to move to a corner and supposedly he is not. Baty would just be more confusion.

I know you sort of have to take hitters where you can find them, but pretty recently we've also seen the futility of rosters full of big bats who don't add up to an good baseball team so you don't want to end up there again either.

Keith has shown power in the minors though, so I think they believe it's there.

This is a reclamation project trade so I don't key on the lefty-righty situation as much...

That being said... If the trade were to go down... then:

2025 Lefty-Righty

Catcher: Rogers (R) - Dingler (R)

1B - Keith (L) - Malloy (R) - Ibanez (R)

2B - Jung (L) - not out of ST, but by June-ish? - Torres (R)

SS - Sweeney (L) - Baez (R)

3B - Baty (L) - Vierling (R)

LF - Perez (S) - Carpenter (L) - Malloy (R)

CF - Meadows (L) - Perez (S)

RF - Greene (L) - Vierling (R)

DH - Carpenter (L) - Malloy (R)

Two things: I think the Tigers and Hinch can figure out any lefty-righty switches they need in 2025. And also, there will be additional kids in AAA and in AA (Rainer-McGonigle) that will be ready and waiting to break into MLB... even if starting as a bench player, in 2025 and 2026 (IMO):

2026 Lefty-Righty

Catcher: Liranzo (S) - Dingler (R)

1B - Keith (L) - Liranzo (S) - Malloy (R)

2B - Jung (L) - Hao-Yu-Lee (R)

SS - Sweeney (L) - Baez (R)

3B - Baty (L) - Vierling (R)

LF - Clark (L) - Perez (S)

CF - Meadows (L) - Campos (R)

RF - Greene (L) - Vierling (R)

DH - Carpenter (L) - Malloy (R)

McGonigle & Rainer will be at AAA unless...

I agree with this plus without Bregman third base goes to Verling and Carpenter goes to RF opening up the DH for Tork.

That seems very likely if the sign Bregman.  But what about the bench?  Dingler, Baez, Ibanez, McKinstry to start out the season?

Yes, If they signed Bregman and the season started tomorrow, I think that would be their bench.

I know people say Spring Training results don't matter, but I say if Tork is crushing the ball, he'll come north. At least, if he's still a Tiger.

Or he would be back by May 1. But he has to make more contact. I've been as hopeful about him as anyone but at some point he has to produce more. It can go 3 ways: the capability is there and he finally gets over some counter productive beliefs about how to hit and he succeeds; Or he can't bring himself to trust doing it differently and he ends up eventually bouncing around the minors until he gets his head on right or ends up out of baseball; or the pitch recognition was never there to begin with and he's never been more than Christin Stewart with a prettier swing. Which ever it is I don't think he's going to get much more rope from the Tigers.
