buddha Posted February 4 Posted February 4 additions to this year: mbn, plante, kiiskinen, finnie subtractions: edvinsson, soderblom, gibson, dower-nilson edvinsson and soderblom aged out. the same analysis as usual for detroit: deep with no stars. fwiw, they said the same about raymond too (as in, they said he was good but not a star. i think he's becoming a star). wheeler and others often seem entranced by smaller, quicker skilled forwards who light up the lower levels and then turn into decent nhl players but not stars because theyre so small. like.....buchelnikov or plante. but its interesting then that he thinks so highly of mbn who is the opposite of that: big, strong, physical, with not a lot of razzle and/or dazzle in his game. it looks like the wings are set up nicely in net for the future provided they dont trade one of them. they have a steady line of 3rd pair defensemen from both the right and left side. and they have asp, who profiles as a likely second pair defenseman and power play specialist. what they need is a star. we'll see if this is the year they go out and pay for one. Seems about right for Wheeler, honestly I'm shocked he had them in the top 5 after Edvinsson "graduated". He's notoriously been more down on Danielson than other evaluators and he generally doesn't change his tune even after the draft, so it is nice to see he still rates them well I guess! Quote

He's notoriously been more down on Danielson than other evaluators and he generally doesn't change his tune even after the draft, so it is nice to see he still rates them well I guess! he did say danielson could have been #2 on the list. but then goes on to say he doesnt look like a #1 center and the offense isnt there. i give credit to wheeler for putting out as much stuff as he does about hockey prospects. he's got great knowledge of a lot of different people. but having a wide base of knowledge doesnt always correlate to a deep base on each player. which is ok! there are hundreds and hundreds of these guys and i wouldnt expect him to have a deep knowledge of each one of them. i appreciate what he does while also disagreeing with him because ALL i do is follow wings prospects so i have different opinions about them. and im a little biased. 🙂 1 Quote

slothfacekilla Posted March 20 Author Posted March 20 Plante was probably the best Freshman in the NCAA this year The Wings might have another intriguing Goalie prospect on their hands as well: Guimond might be the Red Wings’ most under-the-radar prospect. The team took a flier on him in the 2023 draft, 148 picks after Augustine (169th overall, in the sixth round). All he’s done is go 15-0-0, the best start ever for a CHL goalie. He has a 1.52 GAA and .948 save percentage but hasn’t appeared in enough games to qualify for the league lead. That’s because he started the season with Cedar Rapids of the USHL before a November rules change making CHL players eligible to play in the NCAA prompted him to join Moncton. lordstanley Posted March 24 Posted March 24 (edited) Not a "prospect" per se, but what do you know Sloth about Josh Leivo's 49-goal record-setting season in the KHL? 31 years old and never scored more than 19 points in an NHL season for the Leafs, Canucks, Hurricanes or Blues. He did have some decent points total in AHL seasons but that never translated to the NHL for him. Is he on PEDs or something, or is there any remote chance that something has clicked in the KHL and he'll be looking at NHL offers this off-season. I honestly have no clue, maybe he's a late bloomer but some guys just click in certain leagues too. I don't really know what the KHL landscape is like these days either. Seems like something that will at least get him invited to NHL training camps. Quote
