When Jake Rogers hit a grand slam last week the 3 baserunners waited at the plate with their arms around each other and then they all hugged. I’d never seen that before but except for a walk off. 1 Quote

I’d never seen that before but except for a walk off. These guys have a chemistry and camaraderie that is fetching. A lot of them are achieving for the first time their lifelong goals and they’re doing it together which magnifies the experience; while others who have hit bumps in the road and been injured or sent down have returned and are justified in feeling a reacquaintance with the same thing but in a different manner, and they are all rising together. It’s a beautiful thing to witness. 3 Quote

kdog Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 Scott Harris task this offseason is to find a proven right handed power bat(not a Canha type). It doesn’t have to be a huge free agent. You can make baseball trades. That puts the tigers in the mix next year if they have health luck. It might require taking on some contract risk. You aren’t going to have a perfect balance sheet and you cannot schedule contention because player development is not linear. Throw us a bone with a real hitter. I’m tired of waiting. 1 Quote

Its just easier to look at free agency as the way to add talent because those options are more visible than trade options are. Plus, it adds talent without directly affecting the farm system. In addition to the RHH bat, I still think they need relief pitching and sufficient starting pitching to add to Skubal, Olson, and Mize (and maybe Maeda) which pushes the younger arms down to Toledo to start the season. Use Montero as depth. Jobe has walked too many AA players. Gipson-Long is going to be coming back from an entire season off. I think Holton could stretch out into a rotation role, but that weakens the bullpen. The youth can eventually promote up, and hopefully does. The offseason pitching acquisitions can be short term to allow for the timing of such. Back to the RHH bat, is it corner IF? Edited August 22, 2024 by casimir Quote

RandyMarsh Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 Kinda a good news bad news thing but Meadows has now passed Keith in OPS, would not have foreseen that a month ago. Quote

Small sample size and I have not seen every Jung play at 3B. He has looked better than advertised. That play last night where leaped and threw to 1B too quickly.... I don't know if that was a sign of poor defense or just a kid not realizing how much time he had. To borrow from a great quote, he didn't qualify the speed of the runner. I agree with you about Torkelson, he has not proven reliable at the plate which will need to be his calling card, and need to overcome his poor defense. I don't know what to expect surrounding him this offseason. So, it would seem like a RHH 3B would fit best, at least with this current roster and guessing who remains in Detroit. Quote

Look for the best RH'ed platoon/ defensive replacement option to match up with Sweeney, whether internal or external. The best option, IMO, is to go after Bo Bichette. He's at least a good option for 2025. Ibanez is a RH'ed option for 1B/ 2B/ 3B. Is there anyone we can get that would be better? I think McKinstry could be replaced with a RH'ed bat. Internally, could that be Navigato? I don't see a need for a McKinstry as an OF'er. We have Greene, Carpenter, Meadows... who all look like starters in the OF. All LH'ers. But Vierling is an excellent RH'ed back up at all 3 positions. Perez looks like a viable switch-hitting backup for 2025. And we still have Malloy as a RH'ed LF'er (hiding him) and DH. Whether that's in Detroit or Toledo... Quote

That would be 560 player-games, and there are only 486 player-games a season in the outfield. I assume you would take the remaining 72 games from Vierling and have him DH or play elsewhere? Also, are you out on Wenceel? I mean, i don't think much of him, but I thought most people here like him and thinks he has a future here. Quote
