Vikings at Lions

Thanks to incredible dumb luck and very poor defensive execution by Minnesota letting Detroit get OOB to stop the clock twice....and actually hats off to Goff for some pretty good passing on the last drive.

Would it kill them to play some uptempo offense other than in the last 2 minutes of a hallf?

think back to all the drives the Lions could have kept alive if Goff could throw a catchable checkdown! The Vikings were ripe for this to be an easy Lion's win and it was all they could do to pull it out.

Maybe Goff should run the 2 minute offense more often and see whether he/they execute better in a faster rhythm.

He's a bad quarterback but he might be better in a more up tempo style.

Or maybe they should just lose all the games and go for the number one pick regardless, LOL

And Minnesota is a borderline playoff team? It shows us how diluted talent is these days. Artificial playoff races...get your tickets now!

Well, it took a near 50 yard field goal at the buzzer at home earlier this year.    The Ravens had to kick a 66 yard NFL record FG to win.    The NFL is nuts.

I still can't get over how fumbling on 4th down in your own end and throwing an interception in plus territory were literally the right calls to make as a playcaller.  Seriously.  Let that sink in for second.  Name one other coach smart enough to turn the ball over TWICE to ensure the victory?  That's coach of the year type of thing.

Soon you will see Tom Brady doing the same thing.  This is a copycat league.

It's like we've seen this movie before. Remember how a young Stafford would sputter and stumble and then run a great 2 min drill when he no longer had time to think about anything? We just saw sort of a painfully familiar thing with Goff.

Soon we won't see any coach take timeouts at the end of the half on defense to get the ball back and score. The right call is to let the other team just run out the clock.

Stafford is a gun slinger who had weapons. Not sure I want Goff slinging it around with these receivers unless necessary.

We've never seen that.  It certainly would be a wild thing.  Almost as wild as if a team actually KNEELED at the end of a half.  Luckily we don't live in that world and instead we will continue to see all those teams calling timeouts when they don't have the ball to save the clock for their opposition.

But don't they know they shouldn't call timeout and get extra possessions?

right , very different players and Goff overall looks pretty irredeemable, but it just goes to show no-one gets to the NFL without some talent. Being consistent with it is the bigger battle for the Goff type.

Actually I think you just pointed out how bad Zimmer is as a coach, he had 3 timeouts and didn't call a single one when the clock was running on our last drive!  How did he expect to get the ball back with time to score?  Maybe they should fire Zimmer.

Evidently the narrative has now been set: Campbell is bad at clock management.

Every decision he makes from here on out will be another data point to demonstrate that he is bad at clock management. Even if his decision works out, it will be attributed to luck or a mistake by the other coach. He will never again make a decision about managing the clock that the hive mind deems to be good.

He actually called multiple timeouts on the last drive.

The INT and fumble worked out, guess they were the right decision?  Outcome doesn't guarantee wisdom.  Again, after he called the first TO they got a 2 first downs.  Why didn't he call any more?  What was the strategy?  Again, just because we stopped them on 4th down and then got a FG (on 3rd down) doesn't necessarily make it the right call.  There has to be reasoning.
