I've been watching the combine and I came away really impressed by the IDL James Pearce Jr. from Tennessee. Kid seems like he has a really high athletic upside and a pass rush element to his game having had 7.5 and 9.5 sacks in two different seasons.

He's not IDL.

He's 6'5" 245 #'s so he's an edge defender. As an edge, the Lions look at run-stopping first and pass-rushing second (for a starter).

MUST set the edge, and pass rush is a definite plus... But to start...

I believe Pearce does both quite well... so he would definitely be in their sights...

FWIW RE Pearce:

James Pearce Dropped Off Some Boards

By Charlie Campbell

Quote

A few weeks ago in the Hot Press, we reported how some team sources said that Tennessee edge rusher James Pearce Jr. was in danger of getting dropped off some draft boards. In that Hot Press, here was what one executive said about him.

“He’s in danger of getting dropped off our board,” said the director of player personnel for an AFC playoff team. “Granted, we are a strict team in terms of character, but we have a lot of concerns, and I think he probably isn’t a fit for us.”

In following up with some team sources elsewhere, other teams have a similar feeling. In fact, one team that needs edge rush help and is picking in the top 16 has dropped Pearce off the board, according to team sources. The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder had an electric 40-yard dash time of 4.47 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine. Plus, he also has multiple seasons of showing dynamic pass-rush ability in the SEC and teams like him as a player. That 40 time could cause teams to give him some more consideration, but sources across the league say there are significant character concerns, and Pearce is in danger of getting dropped off numerous boards.

NFL Network didn't have him listed as an Edge, but a DL. Maybe they don't decipher between Edge guys and interior DL as far as the combine projections go. Also, I just saw what Cardinal posted about him. If Charlie Campbell's scouting report is legit and he has significant character issues then I guess we can forget him.

I get that reporters can only report on what they hear, but this is the season of lies. Anything that comes out of any NFL teams mouths needs to be strictly considered to be in a Schrodinger's Cat situation. It's both truthful and a lie until after the draft when it collapses upon observation to one state or the other.
